Description Marco Silva 2011-07-27 17:35:40 CEST
Description of problem: I'm using Mageia 64 KDE, with nspluginwrapper and Flash Player 32-bit 10.3 (it happens with the version on the repositories and the one downloadable from Adobe).

Most of the times, when I play anything that requires the Flash plugin (an YouTube video, for example), the plugin loads and plays the video normally, but there is no sound. Other times, it just plays normally. It's weird...

And , whether it plays the sound or not, there is no indication of it on the KDE's Pulse Audio Volume Control GUI (I don't know the exact names in English - I use KDE in Portuguese)...

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 1.3.0-7.mga1

How reproducible: On a Mageia 64-bits KDE with nspluginwrapper and the 32-bit 10.3 Flash Player, watch a video on YouTube that requires the Adobe Flash plugin. There will be no sound, most of the times.

Solution: On this Forum thread (https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=845), doktor5000 sugested the installation of the libalsa-plugins-pulseaudio 32-bit library, which solved the problem. Sound plays normally and the Pulse Audio Volume Control GUI now shows the sound volume of the video playing on the Flash Plugin.

I think that, whenever someone installs nspluginwrapper on x86_64, this library should be added as a dependency. Or maybe issue an update to nspluginwrapper that requires this dependency?

Thank you.

$ urpmf --suggests libalsa-plugins-pulseaudio
lib64alsa-plugins-pulseaudio:libalsa-plugins-pulseaudio

It's suggested by lib64alsa-plugins-pulseaudio, but libalsa-plugins-pulseaudio wasn't available on the x86_64 DVD, so it wasn't pulled when you installed the system.

Maybe the ISO's could be updated? Is that feasible?

And couldn't an update be issued to lib64alsa-plugins-pulseaudio, which requires libalsa-plugins-pulseaudio as a dependency?
Comment 3 Colin Guthrie 2011-07-28 12:04:23 CEST
We cannot add the 32 bit plugin as a dep as it's not a strict dependency, it's just "nice" to have for a dual arch install. If you do not run any 32 bit apps then it's not needed and if do not have the 32 bit media defined then it's going to cause a breakage.

What we could do is update the plugins which will simply cause a bump and it (should) install the suggested packages too, but I'm not sure if that will work under all circumstances (I guess it should mostly, but I'm not sure how the 32 bit media adding is handled on 64 bit installs...)
Comment 4 Marco Silva 2011-07-28 12:22:44 CEST
The 32 bit media is enabled by default.

IMHO your second suggestion is more elegant.

In my system, the only thing I had to do was to install the libalsa-plugins-pulseaudio. Then, it just worked.

However, with 64 bit Flash Player just arround the corner, the need for this is becoming residual.

But it would be interesting to update the plugins, even if it's just the same packages with an increase in the version number.

In fact this seems still valid. :/

When we install a minimal netinstall from cauldron on a x86_64 host, the installer install some pkg in 32bits.

But i'am not sure if it's the same bug.

Hi,

This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment.

Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2.

Thanks :)

Cheers,
marja

Nor am I. I don't even know whether all 32 bits packages are available in 64bits too, now.

The last 2 pings gave no reply, so closing as old.

Please reopen if needed.
