Description David GEIGER 2011-07-26 00:40:09 CEST
Hello Team Mageia,

Not knowing where to post, I address here:

# cat /etc/release
Mageia release 1 (Official) for x86_64
# uname -r
2.6.38.7-desktop-1.mga
# kde4-config --version | grep KDE | sed -e 's/.*: //'
4.6.5 (4.6.5)

To assist the QA, I installed firefox 5.0.1 Core / Update_Testing
# rpm -qa | grep firefox
firefox-fr-5.0.1-1.1.mga1
firefox-5.0.1-1.1.mga1

Everything went well, nothing to report special on the operation.

Just one small problem:
-At the opening of firefox, The cursor bouncing goes to the 30sec
before disappearing.
Normally the cursor bouncing, should disappear at the opening of Firefox about 5 to 6 seconds max.

That's all I wanted to make, if that helps.I would be delighted.

Regards David alias david.david, moderator MLO

Hello,

I just found another problem more annoying :

-The French dictionary is not built by default
Right click "Check Spelling" ->> "Languages" ->> "English / USA"
It lacks "Languages" ->> "French" ,Yet the package "firefox-fr-5.0.1" is installed.

- The StartupNotify issue with firefox is a long standing issue with no fix, AFAIK. There're a couple of workarounds:
o Edit the firefox.desktop files and change StartupNotify=true to StartupNotify=false
o Change the launcher feedback settings in systemsettings -> Application and System Notification -> Launch Feedback and lower the timeout value

For the dictionary, you need to install myspell-fr_FR.

"myspell-fr_FR" is is already installed.Except that firefox do not take into account.

# rpm -qa | grep myspell
myspell-en_US-1.0.2-30.mga1
myspell-fr_FR-1.0.2-30.mga1
myspell-fr_BE-1.0.2-30.mga1

Yet with "firefox 4.0.1" I did not have this problem.

I quite agree with you, but I think not, whether an ultimate solution for single users.Especially with the version 4.0.1 there is no problem.

I just wanted to give my opinion on this new version to improve it.

Thanks.

I didn't know it worked with 4.x (I've changed the settings in systemsettings a couple of years ago and never looked back, not just for firefox, but for other apps that take longer-than-usual to fully start).

I'll test the myspell issue.

I don't know how the dictionary things should work now in firefox, now that it's built as a standalone, there're too many changes in the firefox spec, dmorgan will know more than me.

If I understand correctly, this blocks firefox 5.0.1 update. Feel free to remove the "Blocks" field entry if not.

Well, as far as launch feedback, goes, i also set this to 3 seconds in
systemsettings, and firefox respects that. Also spellchecking seems working
here, at least english.
On right-click in a text field -> Languages it only shows
English / United States of America
And i have also set spellchecker.dictionary to de-DE, seems to have no effect
anymore.

Also since Firefox 3 not myspell is used but hunspell, so what myspell packages
are installed is irrelevant.

Firefox does not seem to pickup the dictionary anymore.
But shouldn't the user need to install additional dictionaries himself?

The bug isn't about firefox respecting the settings in systemsettings, that has always worked; the bug is that firefox doesn't tell the system "I finished loading", so that the launch feedback can stop, it goes on until the end of the timeout every time, AFAIK.

The myspell dictionaries packages is what the mdv/mga firefox packages are configured to use (up till 4.x, dunno about 5.x), check the firefox spec. (we're talking about the dictionaries themselves (i.e. the text files containing the word lists) not the underlying spell checking library libhunspell*).

Hence this bug and my comment in the other bug.

Sure, but the standard way in mdv/mga has always been installing myspell-*; that doesn't mean users can install dictionaries directly from mozilla (which will be installed in the user's profile directory and not system-wide the like the myspell-* ones).

Hello,

So,with the bug fix "firefox-5.0.1-1.2.mga1.x86_64" it works for me now.

The French dictionary is present On right-click in a text field -> Languages ->
English / United States of America
French

And for The StartupNotify, i also set this to 5 seconds in
systemsettings, and firefox respects that.

It's OK for me and thank you to all the team.
Comment 10 Luc Menut 2011-07-31 21:00:16 CEST
The startup notification should work now correctly with firefox-5.0.1-1.3 (without any workaround in systemsettings config).

Wow ! It's really impressive and excellent your work.

So,with the bug fix "firefox-5.0.1-1.3.mga1.x86_64" it works even better now.

For the StartupNotify,I was set to 30 seconds in systemsettings ,
and now the StartupNotify stops right from the start of the application firefox.

And for the French dictionary, nothing to report, still OK.

Thank for you.
