I boot the computer with the Mageia 6 Xfce Live DVD. After booting for several minutes it stops with the error message: dracut Warning: could not boot dracut Warning: /dev/disk/by-label/Mageia6-Xfce-LiveDVD does not exist dracut Warning: /live/union does not exist Generating "/run/initramfs/rdsosreport.txt" This file only adds these lines to the above messages: device-mapper: uevent: version 1.0.3 device-mapper: ioctl: 4.35.0-ioctl (2016-06-23) initialised: dm-devel@redhat.com
Hi Franz, Thanks for the report. Did you use the 64bit or the 32bit Mageia 6 Xfce Live DVD ? Where did you download it from? Did you dump it on a USB stick, or burn it on a DVD? When you boot the iso, do you see F1 Help, F2 Language, F3 etc. options at the bottom of the bootloader screen, like here http://doc.mageia.org/draklive/6/en/content/images/live-bootCSM.png or are those options missing? If I understand what's written here http://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man7/dracut.cmdline.7.html then adding rd.debug to the kernel options line in the bootloader menu, will add more information to /run/initramfs/rdsosreport.txt Can you try whether that works? Changing version to Cauldron and putting MGA6.1TOO on the whiteboard, because this issue cannot be fixed in an already released iso version. Adding (MGA6) to the whiteboard, to indicate that this issue was last seen with sa MGA6 iso.

This is the Mageia-6 i586 DVD Xfce Live downloaded from mageia.org. I started with the "rd.debug" kernel option F6. I have now a very big file /run/initramfs/rdsosreport.txt. I have copied this file to a new folder on the sda1 partition which I had to mount manually. Then I used the Mageia-6 standard DVD Rescue system to copy this file to the usb stick. I add the attachment. I see entries from /lib/dracut-lib.sh@419(source_all): '//lib/dracut/hooks/emergency/80-x2fdevx2fdiskx2fby-labelx2fMageia-6-Xfce-LiveDVD.sh' /lib/dracut/hooks/emergency/80-x2fdevx2fdiskx2fby-labelx2fMageia-6-Xfce-LiveDVD.sh@1(source): '8' -e /dev/disk/by-label/Mageia-6-Xfce-LiveDVD ']' /lib/dracut/hooks/emergency/80-x2fdevx2fdiskx2fby-labelx2fMageia-6-Xfce-LiveDVD.sh@1(source): warn '/dev/disk/by-label/Mageia-6-Xfce-LiveDVD does not exist'
Created attachment 10022 [details] /run/initramfs/rdsosreport-part1.txt The file you are trying to attach is 1163 kilobytes (KB) in size. Attachments cannot be more than 1000 KB. So I had to cut the attachement.

It appears from the report that you are booting from a DVD. Just to be sure we aren't dealing with a bad download/copy, could you verify that the md5sum of the burned DVD matches the published md5sum for the Mageia-6-Xfce-LiveDVD ISO.
CC: (none) => mageia
[franz@elite ~]$ md5sum /dev/sr0 911088471ddc24bc2d92084e19cec534 /dev/sr0 This is the same as listed on the link at http://www.mageia.org/en/downloads/get/?q=Mageia-6-LiveDVD-Xfce-i586-DVD.iso .
Looking in your rdsosreport.txt, it seems the system has correctly read the UUID and disk label: + blkid ... /dev/sr0: UUID="2017-07-11-19-30-41-00" LABEL="Mageia-6-Xfce-LiveDVD" TYPE="iso9660" PTUUID="42c649ae" PTTYPE="dos" but udevd has not created the necessary links in /dev/disk/by-label and /dev/disk/by-uuid: + ls -l /dev/disk/by-id /dev/disk/by-partuuid /dev/disk/by-path /dev/disk/by-uuid ... /dev/disk/by-uuid: total 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root 0 10 Mar 5 11:45 0699f827-1002-4312-b4a3-56bde2b37ddd -> ../../sda1 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root 0 10 Mar 5 11:45 38b6b784-4aee-4bf1-8335-5fa1c2b1e9c7 -> ../../sdb5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root 0 10 Mar 5 11:45 8a56ace0-93aa-40a2-823b-353d165052be -> ../../sda5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root 0 10 Mar 5 11:45 b9c57a94-1fe1-44b7-9c74-1c9acbde7fcc -> ../../sda6 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root 0 10 Mar 5 11:45 c113287b-7d52-43e2-bc11-643fc6e2512b -> ../../sdb1 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root 0 10 Mar 5 11:45 e6ac2d5e-d429-4d60-b20d-5677516cc980 -> ../../sda7 I don't see anything else obviously wrong. I notice you have two optical drives. Do you get the same result if you use the other drive? Apart from that, I'm out of ideas. cc'ing tmb, in the hope he can suggest something.

If I use the BIOS to choose the second DVD drive (TSST Corp TS-H552U) at /dev/sr1 instead of the first DVD drive (Philips PCDV6116) at /dev/sr0 then the Mageia 6 Live DVD boots like a charm.

OK, this looks like either a driver or udevd problem to me. Possibly there's a problem that only occurs when there are two drives in the system, but I can't test that because I only have one drive. Reducing the severity, as the user has an alternative drive that works.
