xsane is not really a good player with cameras... it has had no upstream update for years. I think you won't get much support with it. It is the same xsane in MGA5 and MGA6, so the problem may be another change (linux v4l driver). I suggest you try another maintained scanner like LibreOffice, simple-scan...
