Description Reinhard Nickels 2011-07-20 21:56:53 CEST
Description of problem:
I installed Mageia on a new computer with an ethernet adapter Intel 82579V.
Sometimes the access to my router is blocked for minutes. During this time pings from this computer and also from a second computer to the router got lost.

How reproducible:
The bug is not reprodusible.

More:
I saw no specific log entries when the failure occures. Wireshark logging on the interface doesn't yield a result.
It seems that the bug happens less frequent when the ethernet card is configured for 10MBit/s and autoneg=no.

Comment 3 Thomas Backlund 2011-07-24 02:56:25 CEST
Did it work correctly with 2.6.38.7-1.maga1 ?
Comment 4 Reinhard Nickels 2011-07-26 22:51:12 CEST
I am not sure.
I updated to 2.6.38.8-4.mga very soon after I did the first install. Which driver version is included in 2.6.37 ?
Maybe I should try to fall back.
Comment 5 Thomas Backlund 2011-07-27 00:21:44 CEST
It's the same version, but your issue might be with another patch added in 2.6.38.8-4*

So either try 2.6.37.7-1 or kernel-linus-2.6.38.8-1 to rule out any mageia added patch...
Comment 6 Reinhard Nickels 2011-08-04 18:29:17 CEST
This is what I did so far:
I tried 2.6.37.7-1 -> same error
Switched back to 2.6.38.8-4 and installed the new recommended driver from Intel -> same error
Then I saw, that the error is getting harder the more tcp sessions I have opened. To find out what the relation is I used a looping script that pings my dsl router for 1 minute and reports the % of lost packages and the the tcp session count. I found that the error is there when I opened > approximately 20 sessions.

I dont' know why I did it, but I upgraded the firmware of my router (Linksys WRT54GL) and this solved the problem. I still don't know what the reason for the problem was, but since a few days I got no lost packages at all.

So, it was not a bug in Mageia.
This bug can be closed.
