Description of problem: After installing XFCE on fresh mageia install, there are two power management programs. One is "Power Management" which I believe is the gnome program. The second is "Power Manager" which I believe is the XFCE program. Let me also add that gnome was not installed during the Mageia installation and that XFCE was installed after installing the main distribution. This redundancy is a bit confusing and could cause power management issues. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
@ Philippe Sorry for responding so late, we are very short on triagers. * Did you see in MCC that the gnome-power-manager package was installed? * which medium did you use to install, exactly? http://www.mageia.org/nl/downloads/ * if you didn't use a Live CD: which DE('s) (desktop environment('s)) did you choose while installing Mageia 1, so before you decided to install xfce? * did you install any other DE's? * did you deinstall any DE('s) - if so: when exactly and how?

* Did you see in MCC that the gnome-power-manager package was installed? Yes, gnome-power-manager is shown to be installed in MCC. * Which medium did you use to install, exactly? When I reported this bug a while ago, I had installed Mageia from the DVD version and had picked the KDE environment when at the DE selection screen. After the installation completed, I installed XFCE using MCC by installing the task-xfce metapackage. Since then, I reinstalled Mageia last month this time using a network install disk. I then did the same thing and installed XFCE again using the task-xfce package. The result was the same and both gnome and xfce power apps are installed. * If you didn't use a Live CD: which DE('s) (desktop environment('s)) did you choose while installing Mageia 1, so before you decided to install xfce? On both installations, I elected to install KDE first. * Did you install any other DE's? None other than KDE, and then XFCE. * Did you deinstall any DE('s) - if so: when exactly and how? No DEs were uninstalled.
Thanks for taking the time to answer all questions! When looking at the dependencies for task-xfce, I see it suggests gdm. When looking at the dependencies for gdm, I see it suggests gnome-power-manager @ DMorgan, Blino cc'ing you because you're in the changelog for gdm and I wouldn't know who to cc for task-xfce. Is this something that can be solved easily? If so, could it be a junior job?

@ Philippe There is still no maintainer this bug can be assigned to. Please report back if you see this issue is still there in Mageia 2. The redundancy doesn't give problems atm, so changing priority to low and severity to minor.

@ Philippe There is a maintainer now, do you know whether this problem is still valid in Mga2b3, too? assigning

I'm on a fresh Mageia 1 install right now. I installed from the DVD again with KDE as the desktop environment. I'd love to test for this bug in Mageia 2. Should I upgrade to cauldron or would you like me to install fresh from Mageia 2b3 DVD?

Thanks :) PLease try a fresh install (format at least / , /home can be kept), but don't do it if it is a production machine. In that case, you maybe have enough free disk space on your system to install Mga2b3?
Same bug with Mageia 2 beta 3 (DVD 32 bits) Fresh install, with "other" instead of KDE, Gnome or Lxde.

Until now, task-xfce suggested xfswitch-plugin which requires gdm which suggests gnome-power-manager. Gdm suggests in task-xfce was switched earlier to lxdm. I disabled xfswitch-plugin from task-xfce and thus gdm + gnome+power-manager shouldn't be pulled anymore.

Thanks Jani :) @ Philippe Since this should be fixed in cauldron, can you please try anyway, you used another method to install XFCE than Vincent. @ Vincent Which desktop environments do you have apart from XFCE?

So I went ahead and installed Mageia 2 Beta 3. I did as before and went with KDE as my primary desktop environment. I then installed XFCE with task-xfce and now only one power manager appears. Looks like it's been fixed :D!

(In reply to comment #11) > @ Vincent > > Which desktop environments do you have apart from XFCE? I didn't choose KDE, Gnome or Lxde, but only "others". then I installd Task-xfce with the MCC. Are now listed in the MCC : - E17 - Gnome (???) - GnomeClassic - default - drak3d - failsafe - xfce4 Before your question, i wasn't aware that Gnome was in this list... and I dunno why it's here...

Well, good to hear it wasn't this bug that caused it, so for cauldron this is really fixed. I have seen that after choosing "Custom" instead of KDE or Gnome in the Desktop Selection screen of a Mageia 2 beta 3 install, Gnome was preselected in the Package Group Selection screen that followed. Are you sure you deselected it when ticking the "Other Graphical Desktops" box? cc'ing drakx-installer-stage2 maintainer, because I don't know whether there could be a bug here that should be reported (in a separate report!) or not. @ Thierry ^^^

That's strange because I am aware of this little trap... but you are certainly right : I made a fresh install on another laptop for further testing and I don't have this bug anymore (and Gnome is no listed as installed) so we can suppose that the box was checked the first time...
@ Vincent Thanks for the testing. Good to hear that this bug is fixed in cauldron for you, too.
