Which desktop environment?

Do you get anything useful in the in the log, e.g. .xsession-errors, /var/log/messages, dmesg output?

I cannot reproduce here.
I would need some info from the reporter.
Comment 13 Dan Joita 2012-01-18 14:15:53 CET
I can only say it happenes very rarely. Maybe it's dependent on something. I will try to figure it out.

@ Dan

Did you find out where it depends on?
Comment 15 Oliver Burger 2012-04-13 19:19:30 CEST
Does the whole system freeze or can you still move the mouse and switch to a tty?
If yes, please log in there and see (using top) the cpu usage of lxpanel.

All I can say, is that I had a freeze of the panel, the running programs today but could still move the mouse and switch to a tty.
In my case lxpanel did use 100% CPU, but after killing it the rest of LXDE was working again and I could restart the panel from a terminal.

But I'm afraid it won't be able to find this :/

right, but i did not try tty, what is that?
Comment 17 Oliver Burger 2012-04-13 22:23:09 CEST
The ttys are the terminals you can get to using
[Ctrl]-[Alt]-[Fx] where 2 <= x <= 6
