Which desktop environment? Do you get anything useful in the in the log, e.g. .xsession-errors, /var/log/messages, dmesg output?

good news for this one, so far no frize after fresh mageia 1 install i will come back on the 15th as i said

I cannot reproduce here. I would need some info from the reporter.
I can only say it happenes very rarely. Maybe it's dependent on something. I will try to figure it out.

Does the whole system freeze or can you still move the mouse and switch to a tty? If yes, please log in there and see (using top) the cpu usage of lxpanel. All I can say, is that I had a freeze of the panel, the running programs today but could still move the mouse and switch to a tty. In my case lxpanel did use 100% CPU, but after killing it the rest of LXDE was working again and I could restart the panel from a terminal. But I'm afraid it won't be able to find this :/

The ttys are the terminals you can get to using [Ctrl]-[Alt]-[Fx] where 2 <= x <= 6 Oliver
