Description of problem: One of the machines i'm testing mageia on it geared with an AMD Radeon HD5770 graphic card. The kernel support both profile and dynamic power management for such graphic card (in fact for all Radeon > HD2000 I believe) since .35. I use the OSS driver (x11-driver-video-ati) The issue is that power management parameter is left by default in the current setup (in both mga1 and cauldron) and that cause the graphic card fan to be noisy. I fix this by doing, as root : echo "dynpm" > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_method I use dynpm since I found it's the most efficient pm-profile noise-wise and it doesn't produce flickering (so far). There are other options, see http://www.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature for more info. I don't know where to add the command-line so it get executed at each boot. Also, I don't know this command could in some way be added to the driver package so no (complicated) user action have to be taken to take advantage of the power management kernel capabilities. Note: I believe the Radeon firmwares doesn't need to be installed to use kernel power-management for Radeon. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): mga1, cauldron. How reproducible: Always reproducible. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Find a computer with a noisy Radeon based graphic card. 2. Boot Mageia (with the OSS ati driver). 3. Listen.

Summary: Mageia lacks proper power management for Radeon HD5770 graphic card with OSS driver => Radeon HD5770 graphic card is left in default power management with OSS driver
Hi, This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment. Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2. Thanks :) Cheers, marja

Has upstream finally fixed the issue? Is the problem still present in Mageia 5RC?
