As decided in docteam meeting http://meetbot.mageia.org/mageia-doc/2017/mageia-doc.2017-09-18-19.05.html we'd like to moderate posts of _new_ users as additional means to combat spam, so that new users will no longer need to ask for write access to our wiki. We'd also like manual intervention to be needed to promote those new users to unmoderated users (so to users with the automoderated flag), as advised by upstream in advice #3 here https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Moderation#Recommended_use_.2F_good_practices Are there more things that need to be discussed before enabling Moderation?

It would be nice if all _existing_ users https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Special:ListUsers are added to the automoderated group when we start using this extension... afaik none of them has been vandalizing.

Apart from those who are blocked, of course ;-)
Ideally only those who have actually posted to the wiki, and not been blocked already.

Well, both would be OK in my opinion (that would still block spammers who usually create accounts just before spamming, and we can revert any spam done by an 'old' user), so I'll do whatever I manage to do :)
Status: NEW => ASSIGNED
My concern is that the spammers may have already bulk created identities, so just has to get around to using them, rather then create new ones.

Well, in the worst case, they spam, we revert, we block them, and they're out. If I can easily do what you said, I will, otherwise that will apply only to new users. Or maybe I could make everyone moderated and let moderators unblock manually those who contributed in the last year. Samuel

I don't think that's what anyone had in mind when we chose to start moderating.

Anyway, in case that helps, attaching my list of users who have done edits in the past and aren't blocked.

I'll leave this report open, even if we've worked around the issue by letting new users request edit rights, because I think using the Moderation extension would still be better.
