Details

Description Sascha Schroeder 2017-08-27 12:28:41 CEST
Description of problem:
Switch from KDM to SDDM not successful

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. update Mageia 5 to Mageia 6 online via the command line
2. after reboot you'll see a black screen, no login possible
3. first try to configure your graphics card via drakx11, choose SDDM via drakdm (if it's available there, in my case it wasn't by default, needed to install it) and reboot
4. you don't see a login mask
5. system shows a black screen
6. go to terminal via CTRL-ALT-F2
7. try startx -> won't work, message is xauth: file /home/USER/.serverauth.xxxxx does not exit
8. try startx startkde -- :0 -> same message, same problem
9. try DISPLAY=:0 && KWIN_COMPOSE=N kwin_x11 --replace systemsettings & echo -> message "kwin_x11: FATAL ERROR while trying to open display" and "xinit: giving up" is shown
10. try startx startkde -- :1 -> system tries to get into KDE, but only shows mouse cursor and black screen

journal.log where the error of SDDM is shown

The only error message about SDDM here is "Auth: sddm-helper exited with 4"

It is amazing that you needed to manually install SDDM and that it wasn't pulled in automatically.... maybe more wasn't pulled in?

Could you please attach the logs from just before you started upgrading until you finished? Run, after, of course, adjusting times & dates, the following command as _root_ :

  journalctl --since="2017-08-26 22:00" --until="2017-08-27 00:30" > log.txt

and attach log.txt to this bug report.

Hey Marja,

sorry for the delay.

I can't upload the file here: it's more than 1000KB. In fact, it's 43MB...

Please find the link here where you can download the log.txt:

Hope this helps!

This message is a reminder that Mageia 6 is end of life.

Mageia stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Mageia 6. At that time this bug will be closed as OLD (EOL).

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to
fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later
Mageia version prior to Mageia 6's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we cannot
be able to fix it before Mageia 6 was end of life.
If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime,
sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia
release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
