Description of problem: end june 2017 I've installed skypeforlinux-64.rpm since get-skype is became obsolete (this installation is advised in the mageia migration guide). for 2 or 3 weeks, it no longer works with both mageia 5 and 6: -when receiving a call, I hear the call ring but the call window is not displayed, and hence I can'pick up -when using skype-call-tes, I don't hear my message back -when I call somebody I can hear him, but he can't hear me my mike well works, I have checked it with pavucontrol lib64secret is installed on mageia 5 and 6 and I repeat that skypeforlinux did fine work with mageia 5 (at this time I had not yet installed mga6) during july 2017 I have no file to attach Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Our get-skype package was obsoleted http://svnweb.mageia.org/packages/obsolete/get-skype/ with the reason " This version of Skype is dead" I don't know whether there's another version available for Linux, for which a new get-skype package could be created. I can't find a working download link for a skype rpm on https://www.skype.com/en/download-skype/skype-for-computer/ nor anywhere else on that site. @ Sander Assigning to you because you'll know more than me. If there's a new version and new get-skype could be created, but you don't have time to do it, then please reassign to pkg-bugs@m.o

This is the link for downloading: https://go.skype.com/linux.rpm I don't plan to create a new package but we try to make it possible to install this rpm from skype.com (we have already created some virtual provides to make the install more smooth). But about the problem - well, it's a binary package and I have no idea how to debug or fix it. I think it's best to use the support options from Help menu in skypeforlinux.

installation of skypeforlinux-64.rpm asks lib64secrets; even if the latter is already installed, it is not recognized; the way to install skypeforlinux-64.rpm is: rpm -ivh --nodeps skypeforlinux-64.rpm but the best way is to download skypeforlinux-64.deb, to transform it into a rpm with: alien --to-rpm skypeforlinux-64.deb and the return is: skypeforlinux-5.4.0.1-2.x86_64.rpm which can be installed with urpmi without any trouble; "cherry on the cake", this method provides the version number but it doesn't correctly work (see description above); sometimes, that works, but most of times not I tried to implement the skype plugins (new web skype version) in the browser google-chrome: the results are the same wait and see
Some observations regarding the new skype version: Worked flawlessly on my Dell laptop from day 1, merely installed the rpm (skypeforlinux-64.rpm), version 5.4.0.1. This hardware has built-in webcam and microphone. On two desktops (Mageia 6, OpenSuse Leap 42.2), using a USB webcam, I had the same issues Peter reports wrt sound (microphone does not work). Verified that the webcam microphone works flawlessly in non-skype context (video capture, etc.). On the download page (https://www.skype.com/en/download-skype/skype-for-linux/) is a hyperlink for system requirements. The one that caught my eye is this one: "Either a built-in or external microphone is required for voice calls." So, USB webcam mike is no good?... I liberated a microphone from my son's machine and plugged it in. And, everything is now working - I've initiated calls, received them, video and audio is all working.

I don't know what to do

FWIW, I managed to get my webcam (Logitech C270) working by changing the input device to the cam in pavucontrol while a skype call to Echo/Sound Test Service was in progress (without the call in progress, no input devices were displayed). Hope you can sort this out.
Another skype funny after installing Mageia 6 on a laptop (built-in camera/microphone) and desktop (logitech USB camera/mike): Works just fine on the laptop. Much frustration with the desktop: everything *seemed* to work (e.g., with pavucontrol i can see that the recording device [camera mike] is recording), but no playback from call testing service. Same for plug-in headset (old-world mike/headphone sockets). Discovered, more or less by accident, that starting skyeforlinux *from the command line* works (with either webcam or headset)! Starting from the applications-menu gui **with the identical command** (basically: removing the %U argument from the default) still does not work. Say what?!
