Description of problem: * when installing Mageia, I would suggest Mageia drop the final step of offering to update the installation, and, instead, create a new final step where the user is forced to choose the media sources and where Mageia would then install the media sources according to the information supplied by the user. * this step should be as "user-friendly" as possible by asking the user her/his locality or the zone where they reside (country). This step would then take care of installing the media sources as part of the final installation process. * this would then assure that the media sources are installed right at the point of installation. Mageia would then do the usual checks that Mageia does when it checks for updates once the user is logged into her/his account. IMO, there is no real urgency to do updates at the point of installation. Updates are usually taken care of one a user is logged into her/his account. I also note that, in my experience, for most new users to Mageia, installing media sources is not a well known step in the process of installing software ... they really do not understand the necessity of installing media sources. Therefore, IMO, it is best if the Mageia installation process forces the installation of media sources -- this would then help make the updating of new installations that much more useful and seamless to a new user.

Assignee: bugsquad => mageiatoolsSummary: Installing Media Sources at end of the Installation Process => Proposal to add a step "Install Media Sources" at end of the Installation Process, instead of the update step
Hi, Exhuming this proposal from ashes, I would like to update it with some thoughts. Sometimes Mageia systems are installed offline with Classic ISO media. So need to configure online repos is less mandatory. Packages are installed from Install Media. Sometimes, Network is possible. When user is queried to add media, Installer should be more intelligent and should propose going online to add online repos. Advantage: it immediately applies updates on packages. Current openSUSE behaviour is to go online at installation time and apply updated packages from online version. Changed Mageia version to Cauldron.
