Description jclb 2017-08-01 07:13:25 CEST
The version of synfig studio, synfig version 1.2.0

The version "1.2.0" was published as the last official "stable" version on the site
https://www.synfig.org/cms/en/download/

This version is bugged not allowing project extraction, or rendering it "crash" too often, it also crash when zooming too deep.

While version 1.0.2 is the most successful and best previous version that works.

The old version is available here:
https://www.synfig.org/cms/en/download/ > Old versions > releases
> 1.0.2 >

(With sources and rpm)

Please see the forum feedback for version 1.2.0
right here:
https://www.synfig.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=10474
https://www.synfig.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=10553

The solution is to only remove version 1.2.0 available in the mageia CCM.

And to replace it with the version 1.0.2

I prefer not having to downgrade to an older version, now that we have 1.2.0 in Core Release we can't take it back. It's possible to add an Epoch to override it but it's only if there is no other solution.

As upstream still advises to use 1.2.0 on their download page, I suggest you contact them to get them to pull their act together. "BobSynfig" on https://www.synfig.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=10553 says to "avoid 1.2.0" and use the latest dev version... that means they need to make a new stable release, ASAP.

Thank you, I try to argue to make them move the walls.
We'll see if they do anything. To change the stable version number.
Comment 3 Rémi Verschelde 2017-08-02 14:25:41 CEST
If it's what they recommend, I can try to package the current development version until they make a new stable.

I just tested the version "Dev 1.3.3" is worse than the other see identical, I used it 5 minutes
And crash software is planted.

It would be best to put version 1.0.2 in the CCM repositories.

Hi

using cauldron, same problems, synfig 1.2.1 crashes as soon as I try to render or preview an animation, which makes the program rather useless.

On the other end, I downloaded synfig 1.3.10 appimage version from synfig site and this worked much better.

Could we at least upgrade it for Cauldron, as current 1.2.1 seem to be broken anyway ?

Hello, I did some simple animations again, far from doing anything heavy.

And I can tell one thing the version:
1.2.1 on mageia malfunctions, bugs and crashes
1.2.1 on xubuntu works very well, perfect

It is possible that this may be when the RPM is created.

Good to explain it's simple, I made a simple animation in mageia
with key images, I turn off the work, I still open the file with the animations, an error a bug that prevents me from working.

The same animation on xubuntu, everything works no problem, perfect it's good.

I have to use my multi-boot and go to xubuntu to work with synfig studio, I hope it will be fixed for Mageia7.

Mageia 7 and Cauldron provide version 1.2.2, which is the last stable version.

Does it behave any better?
Comment 8 jclb 2019-10-02 16:50:10 CEST
Unfortunately I have not yet installed Mageia7 in real life (I haven't found the free time)

I tested on a virtual machine but there are other problems that appear (a virtual machine is not stable enough especially for rendering).

I will give my personal answer when I really install version 7.

(wait a few weeks or months)...

I still found an error when loading a backup, all the
"keyframes" are mixed up.

Otherwise I didn't find any errors when I did:
the deep zoom
export as png

I stopped at mistake 1, it is still not possible to use this
software normally (at least on my machine).

Here's the error in video with 2 different videos (that you see by yourself):

https://send.firefox.com/download/340c22af3a2c3bcf/#r-VPSQe127gFMa574eJvTg
(small icons and software in French)

https://send.firefox.com/download/b8627e6fbcbca303/#-mn-cgzF_849tnhWhqPskQ
(big icons and software in English)(with this detailed video you will be able
to
probably do some trial and error).

Videos are to be downloaded for >>>>>7 days<<<<<< (then they will be
automatically deleted)
(test done on synfig studio 1.2.2 and Mageia7.1-64bits)
THANK YOU.

Mageia 7 is EOL since July 1st 2021.
There will not have any further bugfix for this release.

You are encouraged to upgrade to Mageia 8 as soon as possible.

@reporter, if this bug still apply with Mageia 8, please let us know it.

@packager, if you work on the Mageia 7 version of your package, please check the Mageia 8 package if issue is also present. In this case, please fix the Mageia 8 version instead.

This bug report will be closed OLD if there is no further notice within 1st September 2021.

Hi bug reporter and hi assignee and others involved,

Please reopen this bug report if it is still valid for Mageia 8 or 9(cauldron), and change "Version:" in the upper left of this report accordingly.

This report is being closed as OLD because it was filed against Mageia 7, for which support ended on June 30th 2021.

Thanks,
Marja
