Description Frédéric "LpSolit" Buclin 2017-07-14 23:37:42 CEST
I installed Thunderbird and Firefox using the Mageia 6 almost official CI DVD. When I click a link in an email in Thunderbird, nothing happens. If I download and install Firefox from the Mozilla website (firefox-54.0.1.tar.bz2), then links are correctly opened in Firefox.

I don't know if this problem already existed in Mageia 5, because it's the first time I installed Firefox using the Firefox RPM.

I've never seen this behaviour in neither Mageia 5 nor in Mageia 6 cauldron, but I haven't yet used Thunderbird in my install from the last QA Classical iso.

(I do very often click a link in a bugzilla mail to go to the matching bug report.)

If you start Thunderbird from cli (with only Mageia's Firefox installed), do you then see any errors when clicking a link in a mail?

This may be a more general problem.

I have Mageia 6 with E21 installed on two laptops (both fully updated from earlier netinstalls), one with FF + Qupzilla, the other with FF + Chromium. On both FF is the default browser. Links clicked from within Evolution open in FF with no problem. However, links from other programs may open in the secondary browser.

I just now opened copies of the same odt file on both machines with FF running. On both machines ctl-click on the link contained in the file caused the secondary browser to load and open the link.

I cannot reproduce this problem again these days. I will keep this bug open for a few more days and will close it if I definitely cannot reproduce it.

Or I will do it the other way: I will reopen this bug if I can reproduce.

OK, I can reproduce. I installed vivaldi-stable-1.10.867.48-1.x86_64.rpm, but kept Firefox as my default browser, and now Thunderbird no longer opens links. The error console throws:

NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND: Component returned failure code: 0x80520012 (NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND) [nsIExternalProtocolService.loadUrl] contentAreaClick.js:192

For some reason, ~/.thunderbird/xxx.default/mimeTypes.rdf was still pointing to the version of Firefox I installed using the official Mozilla tarball:

  <RDF:Description RDF:about="urn:scheme:externalApplication:http"
                   NC:prettyName="firefox"
                   NC:path="/usr/local/bin/firefox" />

NC:path should point to /usr/bin/firefox, i.e. the path to Firefox provided by Mageia, as I removed the Mozilla one and set the Mageia one as the default browser.

And how did you configure that exactly as default? Using the firefox settings button for that, or using the means of your desktop environment to configure the default browser?

It might help if you could read up on the test case https://wiki.mageia.org/en/User:Doktor5000#Default_applications_.28e.g._default_browser.29_systemwide_.2F_per-desktop

The Firefox "Set as defaut" button.

I cannot reproduce the problem with Mageia 7. Closing.
