Description Samuel Verschelde 2017-07-10 15:10:07 CEST
When consulting a bug report, priority and severity are now combined into a single "Importance" item. You need to click it to know that its a combination of priority and severity, but it's not user-friendly at all and it's likely that users who are not using our bugzilla frequently will not know what's what.

Could we get priority and severity items back separately?

The "Importance" field combines the "Priority" and "Severity" fields since Bugzilla 3.2, released in 2008. So nothing new here. And most other Bugzilla installations use the "Importance" field as well, including KDE, GNOME, GCC, Mozilla, etc... OpenSUSE and RedHat decided to revert this change, though.

Priority: Normal => Low

I'm not saying there's a bug nor that it's new in bugzilla's default. It's new in Mageia's bugzilla instance and I'd like the former back. I see that the severity and priority items still exist and I don't remember the discussion where it was decided to replace them with Importance, be it upstream's default or not (though I might have missed such a discussion).

Combining the fields is good for communities whose member all master bugzilla and can take this shortcut, or for those (if they exist) who repeat the words "severity" and "priority" in the field values ("high priority", "low priority", "major severity", etc.), but in our case it's hard enough to make people understand the difference between priority and severity, so let's not hide the difference, please.

Priority: Low => Normal

Or maybe I've never realized it was combined until now, if that's the case then I'll turn this into an enhancement request.

commit 224ec4a14c01789a9f085075b92a48eec677c8d9
Author: Frédéric Buclin <LpSolit@...>
Date:   Tue Jul 11 00:10:29 2017 +0200

    Replace the "Importance" field by two distinct "Priority" and "Severity" fields (mga#21221)

    This reverts what has been done upstream in Bugzilla 3.2 (bmo bug 374020)

Thanks for the change. This statement is untrue, though.

Thanks, Frédéric :-)

Now it looks like we had it right before the upgrade to Bugzilla 5 again.

We have https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Bug_policy#Priority_Values and https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Bug_policy#Severity_Values in our Bug policy, I'm glad we can keep it like that!
