Description of problem: When pluging a headphone in the front panel, it has sound, but the sound boxes which connect with the back panel still have sound. Hardware information: Mainboard: BIOSTAR TA870+ Audio chip (integrated into the mainboard): Realtek ALC892 HD audio support of the front panel: Yes What do the sound boxes connect with: Line Out Reproducible: Steps to Reproduce:
The driver of audio chip: the driver integrated in Mageia
Now the driver from the Realtek website has been installed, but there is still the problem.

Is that bug still valid ? ( and sorry for the bug delay :) )
Component: Installer => RPM Packages
The bug is still valid.
Add colin in CC. What do we need ? these below ? 1. cat /proc/asound/cards 2. ls -l /dev/snd/* 3. getfacl /dev/snd/*
CC: (none) => mageia
The above request is likely not super useful in this case as the card is physically working which generally means points 2 and 3 are fine. The output from the script http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh would be useful, either uploading automatically via the script and posting the link or by attaching the file here. It likely needs a kernel level tweak to mute the relevant panel, but alternatively, it's maybe just a matter of changing the "port" in PA. This port changing should happen automatically on jack insertion but this code is in flux and is not yet available. It should be present for around the kernel 3.3 time frame, but there are a lot of pieces to the puzzle. So in addition to the above alsa-info.sh output, the output from "pacmd ls" would also be useful to check if ports are available. We can then test to see if manually setting the ports would acheive the desired result and we can then be satisfied that when automatic port switching on jack insertion comes along that everything will work as desired (obviously the latter requires PulseAudio to be used, but these days you've got to have very specific needs to disable it). Cheers

Created attachment 1204 [details] the output of alsa-info.sh The attachment "alsa-info.txt" is the output of the script alsa-info.sh mentioned in comment 6.
I have sometimes the sound stil in the desktop speakers even if i plug the headphone; i think is related with this bug (?) My alsa-info.sh: https://bugs.mageia.org/attachment.cgi?id=53
Can both of you also provide "pacmd ls" output as requested in comment 6. Thanks :) FWIW, I suspect strongly that this is basically the same problem as bug #225
i dont use pulseaudio, so the output of the command "pacmd ls" is : No PulseAudio daemon running, or not running as session daemon.
(In reply to comment #15) > i dont use pulseaudio, so the output of the command "pacmd ls" is : > No PulseAudio daemon running, or not running as session daemon. Ahh, if you don't use PA then I'm afraid you'll always have to take manual action on such hardware. There is simply not the infrastructure to do this automatically without PA.
I have problems with pulsaudio and with alsa. It is not better to buy a new sound card ? Is there one that you could suggest ?
(In reply to comment #17) > I have problems with pulsaudio and with alsa. It is not better to buy a new > sound card ? Is there one that you could suggest ? No specific suggestions, but please come on IRC and chat to me and we can maybe resolved the problems (coling on #freenode - later this evening would be ideal)
(In reply to comment #14) > Can both of you also provide "pacmd ls" output as requested in comment 6. > Thanks :) > > FWIW, I suspect strongly that this is basically the same problem as bug #225 @ Ake Can you try that, too, please?

OK, this is a pretty strange one. There appear to be three "Master" controls, and no specific separate ones for Headphones etc. I suspect something is messing up with the model of this driver but will consult with some colleagues on it.

A comment from an Ubunut/Canonical colleague: "Having three masters is all terribly wrong, and hopefully it has been fixed since 2.6.38." So I'm hoping that a newer kernel will fix this.
On Mageia 2 beta 1 x86_64, the headphone plugged in the front panel has no sound. According to Comment 6, I provide the output of alsa-info.sh and "pacmd ls".

I don't use the audio chip any more. Please close the bug report.
Status: ASSIGNED => RESOLVEDResolution: (none) => INVALID
Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully it will be/has been fixed upstream. I think old is a better resolution than invalid tho'.
Resolution: INVALID => OLD
As i have this bug, i would like to be marked as duplicate with bug 225 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 225 ***
Resolution: OLD => DUPLICATE
It's actually a very different issue to the one in bug 225 even if the effects seem similar.
Resolution: DUPLICATE => OLD
as i have this issue too why this bug report is closed ? if it is not duplicate? ( i believe strongly that is a duplicate bug but it does nt matter this)) Do i have to open a new bug report for the same behavior and same chip ? I think that no
The alsa-info output attached to bug #225 shows very different different kcontrols to the one posted here. If you have exactly the same h/w as reported on this bug and have a similar issue (i.e. Master kcontrol listed multiple times with different indexes - see my comment 23 above)) then feel free to reopen this bug and attach a fresh alsa-info output just for reference - ideally against the latest cauldron kernel :)

No you have right about the hardware it is not the same I am not able to understand from the pacmd ls output hoaw many masters i have, can you check it please ?
Created attachment 1699 [details] alsa-info.sh output
Yeah your problem is quite different and it's what is covered in #225. I'll leave an update comment there.
