Description Vladimir Zawalinski 2017-06-10 02:22:56 CEST
Description of problem:
HP stream netbooks and possibly others use Intel Wireless adapter 3165. Currently, Mageia 6 - rc installer does not insert firmware file
/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-7265-14.ucode.
Wireless does not work until this file is inserted manually.
Netbooks often do not have an ethernet connection, complicating installation.

Please add this firmware file to installer.
Comment 1 Vladimir Zawalinski 2017-06-10 02:27:28 CEST
Package:
newest package iwlwifi-agn-ucode, and the 7265-14 is still missing.
Comment 2 Thomas Backlund 2017-06-13 21:30:45 CEST
It should be using 7265-17 which we provide...

Can you attach outputs of lspcidrake -v and journalctl -ab

Sorry, I forgot to say, the "journalctl -ab" needs to be done as root

so please try again

According to this, your hw wants 7265*D* firmware and happily loads the -22 api

un 14 21:46:22 localhost.localdomain kernel: iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-7265D-26.ucode failed with error -2
Jun 14 21:46:22 localhost.localdomain kernel: iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-7265D-25.ucode failed with error -2
Jun 14 21:46:22 localhost.localdomain kernel: iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-7265D-24.ucode failed with error -2
Jun 14 21:46:22 localhost.localdomain kernel: iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-7265D-23.ucode failed with error -2
Jun 14 21:46:22 localhost.localdomain kernel: iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: loaded firmware version 22.391740.0 op_mode iwlmvm

And kernel 4.9 wont support anything below api 17 for that fw

And you have other problems:
partmon[806]: Warning, free space for </boot> is only <0> (which is inferior to <5000>

And you are not running the lastest kernel:
ifplugd(wlo1)[1282]: Using interface wlo1/B8:81:98:4F:CF:13 with driver <iwlwifi> (version: 4.9.13-desktop-1.mga6)

There will be a 4.9.32-1 kernel landing tonight fixing support for loading all fw down to api 17
Comment 9 Thomas Backlund 2017-06-15 07:17:28 CEST
 kernel-4.9.32-1.mga6 is now out
Comment 10 Vladimir Zawalinski 2017-06-20 10:18:49 CEST
I reinstalled MGA6-RC. Attempting to set up wireless from the installer failed with the message 'no driver found', but on first boot after installation, wireless configuration (using network applet) identified available networks and completed normally.

I may have assumed that failure to connect to wireless from the installer implied absence of driver for the network adapter.

Please mark this bug report as CLOSED/SOLVED.
Comment 11 Thomas Backlund 2017-06-20 11:31:14 CEST
Yeah, classical installer does not have access to nonfree firmware while running in installer mode, it only can install them so they are available after first boot

Resolution: (none) => FIXED
