Hi Ben,

Can you please attach the journalctl output from when you started the upgrade until right after the failed login?

Please use the following command (as root) and adjust times and dates as needed:

 journalctl -a --since="2017-05-22 22:00" --until="2017-05-23 09:00" > log.txt

and then compress the log with xz

 xz log.txt

and attach log.txt.xz to this bug report.

Distribution Upgrade from 5.1 Mate only DE in virtualbox - i586 and x86-64  both fail.

both are missing "task-mate" package upon reboot.

login to Icewm is ok

Does installing task-gnome and task-mate fix it?

I didn't really read the logs you attached, but if there isn't a common cause, then this report may need to be cloned for the similar Gnome issue.

I have just completed 4 virtualbox upgrades.

2 x Mate single DE (Mga 5.1 i586 and x86_64)

2 x Gnome single DE (Mga 5.1 i586 and x86_64)

The Gnome ones upgraded without issue, both Mate failed.

Logging in to Icewm, installing task-mate via MCC fixed the issue.
logout to lightdm greeter, choose Mate and login successful.

As there is now version freeze, I will attempt (again) the all DE upgrade and see how it pans out

Summary: After live system upgrade, Mga 5.1 to Mga 6, Mate and Gnome DE wont open => After live system upgrade, Mga 5.1 to Mga 6, Mate DE wont open, installing task-mate fixes the problem (task-mate-minimal is installed)

ok,

upgraded both i586 and x86_64 all DE systems.

x86_64 upgraded without issue, all DE login - ok

i586, again Mate and Gnome failed to login.

with the all DE upgrade, adding task-gnome and task-mate do NOT allow login to either DE (sddm). reboot made no difference.

so,  should I create some more bug reports, one for the failing i586 all DE upgrade, one for the failed i586 single Mate DE upgrade, and one more for the x86_64 single Mate upgrade, and close this one?

Ben, thank you for reporting. Today i have upgraded a Mageia 5.1 i586 single Mate DE virtualbox system to Mageia 6 (per instructions from https://wiki.mageia.org/en/QA_process_for_testing_upgrades) via mgaapplet. I successfully log into Mate session without an issue. So, i couldn't reproduce this. Would you mind to provide your Mate upgrade logs?

I have rerun both the i586 and x86_64 upgrades, one mga-applet, the other urpmi --auto-update -update.

both successful
