Description Andrew Holmes 2017-05-20 15:20:50 CEST
Description of problem:

Error: Unable to download Flash player. This is likely to this package being too old.

Both systems are x86_64 and the newer system has no problem in this regard. Previous version would not uninstall but removal prior to trying to install 25.0.0.148 has not solved the problem. Tried rebuilding rpm database but this also had no effect.

Version 25.0.0.148 is indeed too old

flash-player-plugin-25.0.0.171-1.mga5.nonfree was tested and validated and is ready to be pushed to nonfree/updates, see bug #20818

We're just waiting for a sysadmin to find time.

Meanwhile, you can fetch it from nonfree/updates_testing.

About not being able to uninstall: the package does not contain the software, but fetches it from the adobe website, as explained in the description of the package:

NOTE: This package does not contain the Flash Player itself. The
software will be automatically downloaded from Adobe during package
   installation.

I'm not sure removing the package should remove flash player.

Assigning to the maintainer, who knows better than me :-)

Comment 2 Anssi Hannula 2017-05-21 20:52:57 CEST
The .148 version seemed to not have all the Adobe download urls listed correctly so unfortunately it has become uninstallable already.

So as Marja said, .171 should fix installation.

If the download of new Flash player fails, it is indeed expected that the previous version is not uninstalled and the package is left un-upgraded.

And manual removal of the package indeed removes the installed Flash Player.

No more comments, so flash-player-plugin-25.0.0.171-1.mga5.nonfree must have fixed the issue Andrew had in May 2017.
