Description of problem: I have an application that is failing to run due to absence of /usr/share/X11/XKeysymDB. This file was included in Mandriva 2010 series but is absent on Mageia 1. ??? Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Removed by upstream since 2010-07-08: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/lib/libX11/commit/?id=eb023c0f8919e809b8b609e1467b14d20a290aa7 so I guess the app you're trying to compile needs to be patched to adapt the changes in upstream libx11.
Well thanks for the answer. Unfortunately the app in question is a third party proprietary app produced by a company that is no longer in business. So my solution will have to be to reinsert the old XKeysynDB file on my system and document it locally to try to extend the life of this app a few more years in hopes that a decent free or proprietary replacement for this app will show up on the horizon by the time the next problem occurs. I totally understand the problem on the other side of the issue. The reason that Linux is so much cleaner than Windows is that it doesn't try to support software all the way back to the stone age since all the GPL apps get upgraded in sync with the OS and I wouldn't want it any other way. But, unfortunately, some functions are still not provided by GPL software and proprietary solutions remain the only option available. Thanks again for the fast response. At least now I know how to proceed. - George
So with that I am closing this guy. - George
