Description of problem: I upgraded my old HP to mga6 sta2, and experienced bug 9079 is back. When booting the kernel, the fan goes to 100%, and booting takes ages. Afterwards Wifi is broken, and it need a BIOS reset to get it working again. Booting with kernel-desktop-4.1.8-1.mga5-1-1.mga5, and all is fine. Even newer mga5-kernels cause this problems. lspcidrake says: ssb : Broadcom Limited|BCM4311 802.11a/b/g [NETWORK_OTHER] (rev: 02) tg3 : Broadcom Limited|NetLink BCM5906M Fast Ethernet PCI Express [NETWORK_ETHERNET] (rev: 02) yenta_socket : Ricoh Co Ltd|RL5c476 II [BRIDGE_CARDBUS] (rev: b6) Card:ATI Radeon HD 4870 and earlier: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. Hi! Does this problem also happen with kernel-linus?

Hi! Just tested it: No difference, except fan does not go to 100% :-(
Does it help if you boot with iommu=soft or iommu=off ?

(In reply to Christian Müller from comment #2) > Hi! Just tested it: No difference, except fan does not go to 100% :-( âThen it may be a limitation of the upstream kernel because kernel-linus is not really patched.
(In reply to Thomas Backlund from comment #3) > Does it help if you boot with iommu=soft or iommu=off ? Hi! Nope, no difference. Btw: It was the first time I used drakconf instead of vi to configure grub, which ended in complete disaster: menu.lst was empty, system not booting. I'll do another bug report on that...
With kernel 4.17.18 from backports_testing all is fine. All 4.14.x don't work.

Could the kernel be updated to 4.18.8 on mga6? The 4.17 branch reached EOL.
4.18.10 from testing is working for me, too :)
As this bug was filed against MGA6 which is EOL since Sep 2019 and reporter mentioned that kernels >4.17.18 works...closing as FIXED.
