It happen in both x86_64 or i586 iso. 1. In the screen before selecting "Install Mageia 1" 2. Press F3 to select Text, <Enter> A GUI installer in "PLEASE CHOOSE A LANGUAGE TO USE"
I think this is a duplicate of bug 1321.

I don't think it's a duplicate, he can use the keyboard on the GRUB screen. @Mark: this is a known bug in mageia-gfxboot-theme, the workaround is either: - When booting press and hold Shift, this will take you to a text console, at the prompt type: text then press Enter. OR - At the GRUB screen, press F6 (Kernel Options), select 'Default' and press Enter, type: text then Enter again.

Great! Many thanks! I can run install in text mode although I cannot avoid and still face the problem in https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2034
Assigning to maintainer now that our maintainers database has an entry for this package. Please assign back to bugsquad@mageia.org in case of a mistake from me.

just to mention the problem is still in mga1 final.
also pressing ESC goes into text boot loader and it work from there as well...
Did anybody check whether this bug is still valid for Mga2alpha? @ Donald Please set status to ASSIGNED if you think this bug was assigned correctly. If for work flow reasons you can't do that, then please put OK on the whiteboard instead.

I will take it for now, but as with the other more technical bugs for this package, anyone with more technical experience would by helpful. Someone confirming it for now would be really useful.

Still valid for Mageia 2 Beta1 very easy to reproduce: 1. install using DVD 2. press F3 immediately and select 'Text', when you see the graphical menu from the media 3. you see a textbased first part, which is loading program (next stage) 4. you're back to graphical mode
ok, it's worse now 1. install using DVD 2. press ESC 3. type in 'text' and hit the RETURN key 4. it loads the program 5. you immediately get an error: /bin/unicode_start: /usr/bin/tty: not found umounting partitions you may safely reboot or halt your system it's completely broken now

Looks like we segfault in the Curses module. I don't have alpha3 to test if it's due to the switch to using udev.
i just tested with mageia 2 alpha3 DVD x86_64: after loading, the screen refreshes and at the top i get: exited abnormally :-( -- received signal 6 @tv: is this what you meant?
That means it's not the udev switch that causes it but maybe the perl-5.12 to 5.14 migration. Note that's a different issue than this BR. Please open another BR

Hi, This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment. Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2. Thanks :) Cheers, marja

@ Mauricio I understand Test case 1 went wrong? If so: maybe there is something in stage1.log ? Do you happen to still have an install that was done graphically while you chose F3-text? In that case, you can find stage1.log in /root/drakx/stage1.log If you do not have such an install, but Test case 1 does indeed go wrong: Please reproduce it, and switch to tty2 with Ctrl+Alt+F2 as soon as you see the graphical screen to choose a Language. Then insert a USB key, run "dmesg" to see whether it is sdb, sdc, or ...? Let's assume it is sdd, then do: mkdir sdd1 mount /dev/sdd1 sdd1 cp -a tmp/stage1.log sdd1/ and attach stage1.log to this bug report
oh, and please reopen it, if test case 1 does indeed fail
Created attachment 6445 [details] stage1.log from a failed text install when I select text from the graphical grub option F3 I see that does not pass the text kernel parameter

Text is no longer available when pressing F3, so this is no longer an issue. Pressing ESC correctly displays a pure text installer. So closing as OLD.
