Description Dmitriy B 2011-07-05 09:14:54 CEST
Description of problem:
When installed on the netbook Mageia1 have install packages usb_modeswitch and usb_modeswitch-data. But the usb-modem Alcatel is not diverted, as long as I have not set Tcl package to the system.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
1.1.7

How reproducible:
# rpm -qR usb_modeswitch
sysfsutils
usb_modeswitch-data
rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) <= 4.0-1
rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1
libc.so.6
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.0)
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.1)
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3)
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3.4)
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4)
libusb-0.1.so.4
rtld(GNU_HASH)
rpmlib(PayloadIsLzma) <= 4.4.6-1

Steps to Reproduce:

@sysadm: something went south with this package, the x86_64 package does require tlc:
$ rpm -qpR usb_modeswitch-1.1.7-1.mga1.x86_64.rpm
sysfsutils
usb_modeswitch-data
rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) <= 4.0-1
rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1
bash
tcl
libc.so.6()(64bit)
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.2.5)(64bit)
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3)(64bit)
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3.4)(64bit)
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4)(64bit)
libusb-0.1.so.4()(64bit)
rtld(GNU_HASH)
rpmlib(PayloadIsLzma) <= 4.4.6-1

whereas the i586 one doesn't require tcl...

This is currently breaking usb_modeswitch for the average i586 user, as their umts dongles won't be set to modem mode atomatically on hotplug.
It took me several hours to notice that not udev or usb_modeswitch were causing troubles, but a missing tcl interpreter.

usb_modeswitch_transponder is _written_ in tcl and dies silently, when there's no interpreter around!

This might be a show-stopper for our i586 netbook audience, so 'major' severity is more than appropriate.

Pinging, because nothing has happened with this report for more than 3 months, it still has the status NEW or REOPENED.

@ Emmanuel
Please set status to ASSIGNED if you think this bug was assigned correctly. If for work flow reasons you can't do that, then please put OK on the whiteboard instead. Don't change anything if you want to be pinged by me in this report again ;)

This message is a reminder that Mageia 1 is nearing its end of life.
In approximately 25 days from now, Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing
updates for Mageia 1. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it
remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '1'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to
fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later
Mageia version prior to Mageia 1's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not
be able to fix it before Mageia 1 is end of life. If you would still like to see
this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia,
you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version
of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime,
sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia
release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

Mageia 1 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on ''1st December''. Mageia 1 is no
longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or
bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Mageia
please feel free to click on "Version" change it against that version of Mageia and reopen this bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
