Description Mark Lo 2011-07-05 07:02:53 CEST
Hardware: AMD A8 3850 + ASRock A75M-HVS

After creating partition, selecting none for extra media, I got error in choose packages. Press ctl-alt-1 to get details about the error, I got...

Entering step 'Choosing packages'
Gdk-CRITICAL ** gdk_drawable_real_draw_pixbuf: assertion 'src_x >= 0 && src_x + width <= gdk_pixbuf_get_width(pixbuf)'
failed at /usr/lib/libDrakX/mygtk2.pm line 358

As I can create partition, it should be fine with Chipset A75 FCH (Hudson-D3).

I also found it in Mdk2010.1, Mdk2010.2  :)
Comment 1 Mark Lo 2011-07-05 07:25:03 CEST
I notice a few of the same Gdk-CRITICAL... line 358

Switch to screen 3 (alt-3), I saw
* Computing md5sum of retrieved source synthesis
* urpmi error: 1
Comment 2 Mark Lo 2011-07-06 12:06:26 CEST
Also same error found in dvd-i586.

When the installation step is PACKAGE GROUP SELECTION, only two lines:
An error occurred:
1

Please found the thread in forum.

re-Install in text mode, I got same error.

1st show error: 1 , press OK
2nd show error: 1 , press OK
now show An error occurred: problem reading synthesis file of medium "Mageia - 1 - X86_64 DVD"

Press <alt-F3> , and I didn't find the line "Gdk-CRITICAL ... line 358" , only urpmi error
...
* copying MD5SUM file of "Mageia - 1 - x86_64 DVD"...
* copying [/tmp/image/.../media_info/synthesis.hdlist.cz] for medium "Mageia..DVD"..
* ...copying done
* computing md5sum of retrieved source synthesis

* urpmi error: 1

hmm, this makes me really think it's easier a bad ISO (you checked the md5sum, so we can rule this one out), a bad burn, or a bad optical drive.

You could try burning the ISO again, but at a low speed this time on a new DVD disc.

You could also try installing from the USB stick, the Mageia ISO's are hybrid can be dumped on a USB stick which you can then use to perform the installation:
http://www.mageia.org/wiki/doku.php?id=mageia_installation_media#can_i_dump_any_of_the_mageia_isos_on_a_usb_stick

FWIW, I tested, I got the same:
Gdk-CRITICAL ** gdk_drawable_real_draw_pixbuf: assertion 'src_x >= 0 && src_x +
width <= gdk_pixbuf_get_width(pixbuf)'
failed at /usr/lib/libDrakX/mygtk2.pm line 358

but the installer went on to the next page as expected.

Bad news! Same error found in USB stick from DVD iso.

Double check md5sum,sha1sum on ISO, both are good.

Good news! Installable by liveCD.

However, it is i586, 32bit system, 3GB

Will there a LiveCD x86_64 ISO?
Comment 7 Ahmad Samir 2011-07-08 13:23:01 CEST
ATM, live cd's are only i586.
Comment 8 Mark Lo 2011-07-08 17:49:53 CEST
To solve my problem. I've two ideas.

Idea 1: Could we have a wiki to describe a manual procedure to install by using the DVD-iso. Like follows as example..

0. boot DVD, start to step 'Select language'
1. press [ctl+alt+F2] into console mode
2. su as superuser
3. fdisk to create patition
4. format patition
5. install kernal, grub
6. create user
7. reboot
8. rpm -ivh packages

I would like to help to test and finish the procedure but I need more information. The draft could be finished around a few hours by senior developer... I believe :)

Idea 2: Modify/patch ISO
1. mount ISO to folder /media/dvdiso
2. modify some files or patch some files from download.
3. burn disk
4. install

Idea 2 could be finished around 5 days.

We would need the full logs of the failed attempt (/root/drakx) after a new try...

Hi Mark, could you provide the contents of /root/drakx after a new failed attempt ? Otherwise we can't solve anything for the next release (unless it solves itself, but there's no guarantee)
