Created attachment 8979 [details] Screenshot of kwrite in Plasma See the screenshot. Buttons and their icons at the bottom right are all missing. You have to guess which button is where to do what you want. I did a netinstall of sta2 a few minutes ago, so it's using kwrite-16.12.0-1.mga6.
Hmm, here the buttons are displaying OK. I guess it is not directly a kwrite bug but related to X / display driver. Here intel graphics with modesetting driver is used ...

Sounds like a theme issue. Can you check in systemsettings what Qt5/Plasma theme you are using? I would guess it's Oxygen but I'm not sure (the default in Mageia 6 is Breeze).

I would guess it's Oxygen but I'm not sure (the default > in Mageia 6 is Breeze). Just a data point: Using Xfce DE, Oxygen icons, buttons are present when using kwrite in my user account. sudo su - root via xterm, and icons are missing.

Yes, same here. My screenshot was when using kwrite as root. If I use my own account, icons are present. I'm using the Breeze theme, and Mageia 6 is installed in VirtualBox.
Summary: Buttons in kwrite are not visible when using Plasma => Buttons in kwrite are not visible when using Plasma as root
seems a duplicate.
