Description of problem: It is no longer possible to place widgets separately to activities. Thus Activities in Plasma are no longer usable. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): kactivities-5.29.0-2.mga6 How reproducible: I use Application Launcher as a menu. Drag and drop a menu entry to the Plasma Desktop. No matter if you copy or link the entry to the desktop, the widget appears on both existing activities. If you then right click on the widget, you get a contextual menu with the entry "Activities". Here you can link or unlink the widget to each activity. This configuration seem to have no effect at all. The handling of the Plasma desktop has changed recently, see https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19908#c9 Ulrich Beckmann

(In reply to Nicolas Lécureuil from comment #1) > is it still valid with plasma 5.8.6 ? Yes, it is. I tested the issue in other distributions: Fedora 25: workspace 5.8.6 framework 5.31.0 - same issue. openSUSE 42.2: workspace 5.8.3 framework 5.27.0, KaOS Linux: workspace 5.9.3 framework 5.32.0 - work as expected.
I finally found out what is the crucial configuration: When you right click on the desktop, are there 2 options under Configure Desktop -> Wallpapers -> Layout: "Desktop" and "Folder View". When selecting "Desktop" you will get the old behaviour including the side bar to each widget. If you still want the Folder View and its icons, you should drag the widget named "Folder View" on to the desktop. So I resume that one should select the layout "Desktop" for each activity to use Plasma activities effectively. IMHO that should be the default configuration. Ulrich
