Description PC LX 2016-12-07 11:03:28 CET
Description of problem:

Can't resize any plasmoids in plasma 5.8.4. Can't resize any plasmoids triggered from a panel or in the desktop. Moving the mouse pointer to a plasmoid border and trying to drag it does nothing.

I tried several plasma themes and the issue happens independent of the theme.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

$ rpm -qa | grep task-plasma
task-plasma5-minimal-5.8.4-1.mga6

How reproducible:

Always.

Aren't your plasmoids locked? If so, does it work after unlocking them?
Comment 2 Marek Laane 2016-12-07 11:21:52 CET
It appears to be new behaviour described also in the KDE Bugzilla (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=359220) - essentially you need "long left click" after which you'll see resizing handle at the right upper corner of the plasmoid

Looks like a tablet-like behaviour... So un-ergonomic for computers...

Maybe our KDE maintainers can change the default back to what is was, then.... there aren't many users who run Mageia on a tablet.

You get the old behaviour by right clicking on the desktop -> Desktop Settings -> Tweaks and uncheck the button "Press and hold widgets ..."
see https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18764#c3

These "long clicks" are very unintuitive in a desktop. Maybe the default for "Press and hold widgets ..." could be changed to the previous behaviour.

But what ever that setting is set to, the plasmoids/widgets from the panel (e.g. menu, calendar, notifications) still can't be resized. Long clicks and corner dragging do nothing.

Just now I cannot resize any plasmoid/widget neither by "long clicks" nor by hovering. It worked before for me.
This is here a new issue with plasma-desktop-5.8.5-2.mga6 and plasma-framework-5.29.0-2.mga6.

It works fine here for me, I can resize, move, add, delete plasmoid.

Let me explain the whole story so far:

I cannot drag and drop a widget from Application Launcher to the upper right of the screen. It will be automatically placed to the upper left.
Subsequently one can hold the widget with a left click of the mouse and place it anywhere.

The option "Widget Handling - Press and hold widgets ..." under "Configure desktop -> Tweaks" has no effect. There is no sidebar for an individual widget any longer.

The size of the widgets can only be modified per activity - what is fine. There is now a contextual menu for each widget with a right click of the mouse. There is an item "Activities", but I could not figure out how to place a widget on a single non-default activity.

Greetings,
Ulrich

I can confirm that here everything with widgets work right. Even for dragging items from application launcher (which always creates the widget in the closest "slot" from where it's released).

The option "Widget Handling - Press and hold widgets ..." works. That is, if unchecked, the side bar appears on widgets as soon as you hover or click on them if the widgets are not locked.

No idea about the activity part of the last comment, I never used activities.

Thank you,
I found out what is the key configuration. Under Configure Desktop -> Wallpaper -> Layout you have 2 options: Desktop and Folder View.
When selecting Desktop you will get the "old" behaviour. I was confused, because "Folder View" became the default option in several instances.

Does anyone know a way to resize the panels' menus, calendar, notifications and the other pop-ups?

The panels and desktop widgets can be resized (with the long click or by changing the option mentioned above) but I see no way to resize the the panel's menus and other pop-ups.
