(The possible duplicates list must be saving you heaps of time.) I have been running leafnode for years. Now it keeps reporting "No new messages on server." I can see the messages if I bypass leafnode and go directly to the news server. This happens in both 5 (Official) and 6 (Cauldron.) I will try the source code in the search for clues.

This is getting quite confusing. I downloaded the tarball, and it puts config files directly under /etc. Version 2 alpha puts config files in /etc/leafnode, but the spool in /var/leafnode. As I have only half-a-dozen newsgroups, I am reading them directly from the server -- at least for now.
Doug, can you put "debugmode = 1" in your leafnode config (Mageia's version) and see if anything useful appears in the syslog? Note, the man page says it might be quite verbose, so remove or set to 0 afterwards. You changed nothing recently in your leafnode configuration?
A quick scan does not show the error reported anywhere in the leafnode source. What NNTP-client are you using?
No changes I can think of. My newsreader is Thunderbird. It worked before a couple of reinstalls. I tried to reinstall Windows today (it had several sets of config directories) and finished up with no bootable OS on sda. I am about to wipe the disk and reinstall everything. That may fix a lot of strange errors. I will report further when I have the system back up.
On a clean reinstall of Mga 5, leafnode downloaded 4 new messages which did no show up in Thunderbird. Could be a permission problem.
Thanks for the feedback. Do you agree with closing this report? Additional information might still be in the logs on the system you have this problem on.
Yes, close it for now. The original situation was no messages downloaded at all. 4 messages would be about right. As regards logging, the README deals only with the old system. I have installed rsyslog, but the format of the conf file seems to have changed. A member of the leafnode mailing list suggested I run journalctl, but at the time, that told me nothing not in a verbose "fetchnews -vv." BTW, I ran leafnode in Korora, a Fedora derivative, and couldn't get xinetd to work, although it was perfectly standard. Maybe leafnode 2 needs to be progressed.
Ok, closing it then. Feel free to reopen if new information comes to light.
