Description Davide Nifosi 2016-10-30 16:50:40 CET
Description of problem:

At times, when logging in to my Plasma desktop, instead of my normal layout I'm presented with a default wallpaper desktop and no panel; this happens both with my ordinary user and with a freshly created user with no previous Plasma configuration, but it also seems to happen only when I have my laptop connected to an external monitor (tried a few times with the monitor unplugged and could not reproduce the issue). Logging out and back in takes my normal desktop back. Disconnecting the external monitor while still logged in doesn't change the panel-less desktop.

My hardware is an HP Pavilion dv6 6020el connected to an ASUS VE248 monitor via HDMI.

NOTE: I opened a bug report directly upstream earlier today, not knowing if it was the best course of action

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 5.8.2

How reproducible: not always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot system with SDDM autologin or just login to a Plasma session

Comment 1 Davide Nifosi 2016-11-09 16:25:24 CET
In the upstream bug tracker I've been notified of a commit for Plasma that might solve the issue. Reporting it here

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=371858#c8
Comment 2 Davide Nifosi 2016-12-28 08:59:55 CET
As reported in the upstream track, I no longer have the issue, but can't tell which package update solved it for me. Closing this one

Status: NEW => RESOLVED
Resolution: (none) => FIXED

Comment 3 Davide Nifosi 2017-01-02 20:54:02 CET
Problem is back again for me, so I'm reopening this: it may have coincided with the upgrade to Plasma 5.8.5 (27th December) or kernel 4.9.0 (today)

Status: RESOLVED => REOPENED
Resolution: FIXED => (none)

Comment 4 Davide Nifosi 2017-01-11 16:56:24 CET
Another fix was released upstream. I'll check next release
Comment 5 Davide Nifosi 2017-10-15 12:38:10 CEST
I honestly don't know if it's fixed or not. I've had it happen occasionally at first, then not at all for a week, then very often for another week. Now it hasn't happened for more than a week, so maybe it's fixed for good; I'm currently on Plasma 5.11 beta.

I'm putting this back to resolved and hoping it never comes back, and if it does I'll only bother reporting if I can actually reproduce the bug consistently

Resolution: (none) => FIXED
Status: REOPENED => RESOLVED
