Description of problem: When installing Mga6sta1, I opted to add available updates found online. Because wi-fi was not automatically configured, access to online repos/media failed with an error message. I then thought about connecting an Ethernet cable and have access to the internet by wire. After connecting, I clicked on the Back button and, to my surprise, installation ended ("Congrats, now reboot"). What I expected: to go back one screen and have the online medias found and updates applied. For the record, all computers here connect via wi-fi or Ethernet to the same router. There is the possibility of the cable not being correctly inserted at the second trial, but a new "Connection failed" message should appear in that case. It should never end after clicking on Back. For that we have the Next button. I ended up doing the same I always do: adding media with MCC post-installation. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Mga6sta1 How reproducible: Tried just once, will possibly try again. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Please see above. 2. 3.

Hi. I tried to reproduce this bug when I reinstalled Mga6sta1. This time I took note better of the error message. Translating back to English, it reads as: Failure while adding media Try again? Instead of Yes/No or OK/Cancel options, there are two buttons at the bottom of the screen: [Previous] and [Next]. Last time I thought I should press "Previous" (or "Back") to retry the add media step. This time I connected the Ethernet cable and waited some time (I was taking photos). Then I pressed Next and it worked: there appeared messages of media being added. Afterwards, the same message about looking for updates was shown: Do you want to look for updates bla-bla-bla... (long text) Possible answers are Yes and No. I pressed Yes and a list of updates was retrieved and shown, followed by a question "Proceed with the installation of the updates?" Buttons for answering Yes/No (or Sim/Não in Portuguese) were not visible. I forgot to annotate the answer I provided, but after some time there was a message stating everything was ready for reboot. It seems everything is working but there are layout problems. The options when the installer asks whether the user wants to retry adding media are not clear IMHO, though. Thanks.
Thanks, Renato. Which installation language did you use when you hit this problem? Would you manage to grab screenshots of the (IIUC) two screens where the buttons don't match the question? Screenshots can be easily obtained during stage 2 of traditional installations, by pressing F2 After install the screenshots can be found in /root/DrakX-screenshots/ and then attached to this report. (Still to be checked: whether there's a translation error, or whether this issue is valid for English, too...)

I used Brazilian Portuguese. Someone already mentioned the F2 trick before (elsewhere when testing Mageia 5 one year ago IIRC), but I remember it didn't work back then; maybe that would be a good thing to test again in Mga6. I shot two photos with my phone and will post reduced quality jpeg versions of them.
Created attachment 8664 [details] Options not clear. Added picture with a question about whether the user wishes to "try again" and the possible answers are "Previous/Anterior" and "Next/Próximo". "Try again" implies repeating a previous step (i.e. the user should click on "Previous/Anterior"); it was verified that in the present situation the installer will try again if the user clicks on "Next/Próximo". I am probably misunderstanding things here...
Created attachment 8665 [details] Output out of place. Besides the output being aesthetically and functionally displaced, it also possibly overwrote the buttons which should be clicked for the installation to proceed (probably "Yes" and "No" buttons). It must be noted that Yes is the default, as pressing Enter will make the updates happen.
Relevant text in attachment 8665 [details] is: "Para satisfazer as dependências, os seguintes programas serão instalados:" "To satisfy dependences, the following programs will be installed:" and on the last visible line: "Proceder a instalação de 14 pacotes?" "Proceed (with) the installation of 14 packages?" In scholar Portuguese, though, we write "proceder =à = instalação". The grave accent is a shorthand for two "a" vowels: one preposition ("to", actually Latin "ad") and one definite article ("the", female version). Thus it would mean "proceed to the installation". Omitting the accent is the colloquial way...
I may have to install it again from zero. Then -- provided I remember to do it -- I will test the F2 feature and the equivalent English expressions. Thank you all for your continued efforts and search for excellence in Linux.
Oh, what the... Just reinstalled in English (but with a Brazilian keyboard layout). Without an Ethernet cable the error was similar -- "Error while adding medium", I seem to recall. Buttons were Previous and Next. F2 did not work, though a message did appear stating that screenshots would be in the above mentioned directory; alas, after reboot they weren't there. I clicked on Next due to my previous experience. The list of packages to upgrade appeared displaced exactly like in Portuguese, but there was no last line (or it fell outside the screen) asking whether I wanted to proceed with the installation of N packages. -------------------------- Also -- and this is worse -- besides no buttons being visible (like in Portuguese), there was no apparent reaction to pressing Enter, nor Tab, nor Y and neither N. -------------------------- I used Ctrl-Alt to change to another console and tried to find the screenshots -- to no avail, but I did find the directory with advertising images. When I returned to the installer console, there was a message stating the installation was successful and I could reboot. I rebooted and confirmed there were no screenshots.
BTW, the messages media ("Starting download of somethingsomething.list.cz... done") were also displaced and invaded the left Mageia 6 blue menu area just like in attachment 8665 [details] above.
Sorry about the above post. I was referring to the messages _about_ the added media. On a second thought, these are just popups which are shown in succession because many media sources are configured. I got confused because these popups are all being rendered without a black frame around them (which appears to be the same case with attachment 8665 [details]). Those messages appear displaced because they're popups (that is my suspicion). The monitor is working at 1920x1080 (that information can be obtained directly from the monitor) despite the fact that image seems to be of a lower resolution (maybe 800x600). That might have caused the package update confirmation window to be drawn further to bottom instead of being centered on the screen (just a conjecture). Also, I installed another time and although I cannot see, it seems I had to type the full word "yes" (actually it was Portuguese "sim") to get the updates installed. This time I observed better and saw that a new package was installed (possibly glibc or a kernel) and a message came up at the end stating that I should restart the computer because of said update. I clicked on OK and immediately new updates were offered (that happens too during normal Mageia execution). Again I said OK but an error about a daemon not working or not running was displayed (UDEV? I don't rememeber). The screen went blank and the installer proceeded with the full "End of installation, please reboot" message.
Comment on attachment 8665 [details] Output out of place. Thanks for all the feedback, Renato. For the "output out of place" issue, there's a separate bug report now, bug 19809
Attachment 8665 is obsolete: 0 => 1
About the lacking screenshots, that's a separate issue, too. I filed bug 19810 for it.
Thanks, Marja, for your attention and for organizing the bugs. I sometimes mix issues...
It's ever five years later, was this bug still valid when installing Mageia 8?
