Description of problem: When trying to extract a RAR archive file, Ark cannot manage, & Dolphin crashes. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): ark-16.08.1-1.mga6.x86_64 dolphin-16.08.1-1.mga6.x86_64 unrar-5.31-1.mga6.nonfree.x86_64 How reproducible: Every time. Steps to Reproduce: Ark 1. Open Dolphin 2. Open a RAR archive (with Ark) 3. Ark opens with a warning (translated from fr): "Ark could not open rar_archive_filename. Impossible to find an external module to manage the file. Ark does not seem to support this type of files." When starting Ark from konsole, the message is "ark.kerfuffle: Could not find a plugin to handle "/home/(...).rar" Steps to Reproduce: Dolphin crashes (I will file a bug report to Plamsa, even though the extraction fails, Dolphin should not crash). 1. Open Dolphin 2. rag and release a RAR archive file 3. Select Extract here 4. Dolphin crashes Note: in Konsole, "unrar x rar_archive_filename" works fine, the files are extracted correctly.
Can confirm and add that XArchiver extracts same RAR effortlessly.

Bug report of the Dolphin crash: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=370959
Ark bug is known from KDE team (new mime type for RAR). This should already be fixed in the new 16.08.2 applications version. The crash when a mime type is unknown has just been fixed. It should be available in the next one. So it seems that nothing is to be done here, except maybe the following item mentioned by the KDE developer: "But you should not see the "Extract here" action if you don't have the required backed installed, so I think something might also be wrong in the Mageia package."
Fixed in next ark update (ark-16.08.1-2.mga6) I backported two upstream fixes: https://quickgit.kde.org/?p=ark.git&a=commitdiff&h=9a9a851049cd904f08c9594cc6aacf696886404e https://quickgit.kde.org/?p=ark.git&a=commitdiff&h=33c5874b39a1182402d0869b74417c50195ec37f
