Hi. Barry, is this still valid with current Mate 1.16.0? Btw, i think you don't login into Mate Desktop per your /etc/sysconfig/desktop output but to IceWM. Are you sure that you successfully login into Mate Desktop? And if it's still valid, is your system's /usr/share/mga/backgrouds/default.(png or jpg) is Mga6 wallpaper?
Sadly I wiped the Mate partition yesterday to make more room for my Mga5 / which was full. So I can't check, but I am fairly sure I would have checked default.{png,jpg}. I will try to find some space to make a new Mga5 Mate install and upgrade it.
OK I have now replicated this. I net-installed a clean Mga5 MATE - only selecting the MATE DE during install. I booted into it and it was MATE :) A bit like gnome classic with the top panel. I switched mirrors with sed -i 's:/5/:/6/:g' /etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg and ran urpmi --auto-update --debug > upgrade.log On reboot it booted into IceWM by default with the new Mga6 background. On second boot I selected MATE at login and it booted into MATE but with the Mga5 background! So, what do you need? /etc/sysconfig/desktop was checked before upgrade and did not change: DESKTOP=IceWM DISPLAYMANAGER=lightdm I will attach upgrade.log below
Created attachment 8865 [details] urpmi upgrade --debug log

(In reply to Barry Jackson from comment #6) > Created attachment 8865 [details] > urpmi upgrade --debug log Barry, would you mind to look into /usr/share/mga/backgrounds/default.jpg symlink? Is it same with Mga5 wallpaper or Mga6 one? If it is Mga6 one than please look into .cache/mate/backgrounds directory and open image file located there. Is it same with Mga5 one? Will deleting that image change behaviour? Also, since you have a Mga5 > Mga6 upgrade, would you mind to look at #18913 please? It should be fixed now but a feedback needed.

Is it same with Mga5 wallpaper or Mga6 one? /usr/share/mga/backgrounds directory is all correct for Mga6 (my monitor is 1280x1024) âââ backgrounds â  âââ default.jpg -> default.png â  âââ default.png -> /usr/share/mga/backgrounds/Mageia-Default-1280x1024.png â  âââ Mageia-Default-1024x600.png â  âââ Mageia-Default-1280x1024.png â  âââ Mageia-Default-1280x768.png â  âââ Mageia-Default-1600x1200.png â  âââ Mageia-Default-1920x1200.png â  âââ Mageia-Default-3840x2160.png If it is Mga6 one than > please look into .cache/mate/backgrounds directory and open image file > located there. Is it same with Mga5 one? Yes that one is the old Mga5 background. Will deleting that image change > behaviour? I will re-name it and check but need to reboot. > > Also, since you have a Mga5 > Mga6 upgrade, would you mind to look at #18913 > please? It should be fixed now but a feedback needed. Will do.
> Will deleting that image change > behaviour? Yes removing the file in the cache and log out/in fixes background. Re: #18913 AFAICT all menus are working fine - I will add a note to that bug.
Thank you very much. There is nothing to do with this behaviour, since default.jpg is only symlink to real image (which is set by your resolution) and Mate doesn't think background changed. So, this goes to Errata...

Ouch, I'm reading this entire bug report and wondering how to put it in the errata... and then I see it's already there :-/ Anyway, thanks for adding it ;-)
