Grabbing from the Source RPM field:

> cauldron for 6 downloaded 2016.08.24 "plasma5-X86 64.DVD.iso" [checksum
> verified]

Please attach the following file from that installation

   /root/drakx/report.bug.xz

and please try to install packages, again, and then run, as root

       journalctl -ab > output.txt

and attach output.txt to this report, too.

copy of my second e-mail sent to: marja11@xs4all.nl
Hello Marja,

Did you receive my answer to your request that I sent to this address?
Maybe I was suppose to add them to my bug statement?? The copy that I sent
to bugzilla came back.

In any case, I rebooted the cauldron to test some more software and
arrived at the Mageia welcome. I closed the welcome and the screen went
dark and the computer became frozen.

This happened twice in a row.

I can not send you the bug report, because I did not arrive at a home page.

The only thing that I can tell you is that as the Mageia booted, I saw in red

"failed to start RAID software manager"

-------------
Here is my original e-mail sent to: marja11@xs4all.nl

1. /root/drakx/report.bug (none created)
2. journalctl -ab >output.txt I tried to paste the 7000 lines here, but bugzilla will not allow that much and I can not attach the file and snapshots.

Mageia 6 cauldron
2016.09.02

1. I decided that it would be best to start afresh so that I could more
accurately
see what was happening. So I wiped the HD

2. When the DVD booted I chose "install to HD"
===) I arrived at "US keyboard" the middle of the screen was filled
with a black rectangle
(same as last time) and the computer froze.

3. When the DVD booted I chose "load Mageia"
     ===) absolutely no problems

4. After rebooting, SU password etc I went to the control centre:
       a. update system
       b. configure media sources

5. There seemed to be two updates (perhaps I had clicked twice?)
       a. only a few files
       b. 950 files!
       No error messages this time.

6. To further test the software installer:
    a. take out firefox and reinstall
    b. install chromium
    c. install kate
    d. install konqueror
    e. install pinta (a long installation)
    f. install tex-live (124 MB)

There were no problems with any of the installations.

As requested:

1. /root/drakx/report.bug (none created)
2. journalctl -ab >output.txt (attached)

---------------------------------------------------
I tried a few other things and here are some comments:
a. abuledu - microtexte ===) typo: replace "test" by "text"
b. I tried alt+f2 ===) import how_to_add_switcher_01.png
nothing! imagemagick should be in the core (I added it)
c. ksnapshot not in the list of software! I finally located "spectal"
which is exactly the same.
maybe you can have a phony entry "ksnapshot" which says to download
spectal.
d. konqueror, which I much prefer to dolphin, is either broken or ?
as shown in the snapshot it now only produces a "system" view (I am
not sure what it represents) instead
the usual file views (not available under the view options)
e. I clicked on "widgets" and wanted to put some on the task bar as I had
done with previous versions;
    nothing worked.
f. unfortunately, from my viewpoint, the classic menu style is not
available (or does not seem to be
    available) for the application launcher.
g. The installer defaults to "Gui" and even when I change it reverts to
"GUI" On previous versions it stayed
at "ALL". I used to wonder why "tex-live" was not there, until I
noticed "GUI"

Overall impression: a nice clean setup with an improved presentation
style (launcher, configuration,
    etc).

I am looking forward to the final version.

I hope that this has been helpful (financial contribution on the way)

P.S. I obviously upset Rémi Verschelde by using capitals. I tried to send
him an apology, but it came back. Could you please pass this on to him:

>>> Pardon, je ne voulais pas sembler aggressive
* Do not use CAPS in bug report, this is often seen as aggressive.

If there no drakx logs, then you didn't use the classic installer but you use the liveDVD, didn't you?

Bonjour Thierry,

Roger, please use english to communicate through bugzilla, because lots of contributers and users will not understand french.
Comment 10 roger herz-fischler 2016-09-05 16:29:22 CEST
Sorry for using French, an automatic gesture:

Translation:

Yes, I did use the live DVD. As every one should contribute, but as an essentially "end user" (\TeX and associated tools, Octave, Makor ...) I prefer to start with a minimal installation.

As I reported earlier I could not install Cauldron directly when booting the live DVD; I had to load into RAM and then install.

What puzzles me is why after the install and after testing the installer (the cause of difficulties in my first bug report) everything worked perfectly. But then yesterday only the "welcome to MAGEIA" image appeared, followed by a frozen computer.

If you would like me to test the fuller version, or a revised Cauldron, just let me know,

Roger H-F

Several newer LiveDVD versions were released since this report was filed and for none of them a bug report was closed as duplicate of this one, therefore closing this report as OLD
