While the proprietary Nvidia and ATI drivers still offer better gaming performance the OSS drivers do nowaday offer features for desktop users that can not be achieved with its proprietary counterparts; f.i. only the OSS drivers allow UHD with an GeForce 9600M GT (by default) or a Radeon R5 230 card (+patch of Bug 19231). Besides this multiple X-servers as well as xrandr do only work with the OSS drivers sufficiently (xrandr can often be used to achieve higher resolutions or special setups as well). Multiple X servers can be useful if more than one user wants to log in at the same time or if you wanna do some gaming or watch a video in fullscreen mode while you wanna preserve your desktop environment. This request is about the pros and cons of OSS and proprietary drivers to be pointed out better when the user has to select an option at install time.

This information regarding features/performance is not really actual/valid anymore. Mageia doesn't "advertise" the proprietary drivers anywhere. In the installer is only said "There is a proprietary driver available. Do you want to install it?" Mageia neither forces or advertises the use of proprietary drivers. Closing INVALID.
