is there anyone who can take care about this issue? thanks
colin, i know you are a pulseaudio developer... can you take a look into this bug? thanks cheers, Marcello

Hello there. Some questions: 1. Is PulseAudio running? 2. If yes, can you attach the output of "pacmd ls" when something is playing (even if you cannot hear it).
This could also be caused by the internal mixing being set to analogue versus digital output, so check the desktop mixer to be sure. Or it could be something different... We still need information to determine which Digital Signal Processor this is etc.

Hello there PulseAudio is running as an example if I make mp3 files with amarok,vlc or other you see the bar below to move to the music. All videos play perfectly but without sound. The speakers and headphones do not even hear the classic noise is as if the sound were turned off. The result of pcmd ls: Welcome to PulseAudio! (In reply to comment #4) > This could also be caused by the internal mixing being set to analogue versus > digital output, so check the desktop mixer to be sure. Or it could be something > different... We still need information to determine which Digital Signal > Processor this is etc. Hello olav If I understand correctly the question: The audio is set to duplex analog stereo thanks
The key word in my request was "attach" :) Please try to use the attach file feature in the future for large amounts of output as it makes the bug itself very hard to read when debug output is interspersed with comments! Things look generally OK with that (sometimes obvious problems crop up with here), so can you also *attach* the output of amixer -c0? Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance! hello all ok sorry, I hope to do the right thing now
Created attachment 628 [details] this is the result the result of pacmd if he can propose again to serve here the result of pacmd
Created attachment 629 [details] this is the result the result of amixer
Attachment 628 mime type: text/plain => application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text
Created attachment 630 [details] amixer output Upload a plain text version of amixer output. In future, please attach just plain text documents as created by e.g. gedit or kate. This makes the bugs much easier to read as it can all be done within the web browser.
Attachment 629 is obsolete: 0 => 1
OK, so the kcontrols used for Analog output on this card are not covered by our mixer probing logic. (Analog Front, Analog Side etc.) I'll cook up a patch for you to test sometime soon. It does not require a recompile of PulseAudio, so you should be able to test pretty easily. That said, I also want to consult with an Ubuntu colleague to see if he's actually fixed the driver to have more standard names as this might be a preferred solution here. I likely won't be able to do this for a few days tho', so if I forget (it can happen!) please do ping me here or on IRC :D

Hi, After consulting with someone it's actually tricker than I thought. I will really need to be fixed at the alsa level rather than worked around in PA. There are two problems. One is that the names are non-standard: i.e. they have the "Analog " prefix. and the second is that the Center and LFE channels are combined into a single stereo control rather than (as is normal) separate Center and LFE mono channels - here we do not know if Center is Left and LFE is Right or Center is Right and LFE is Left... it's a bit broken. So I'll report this to the alsa list and see what can be done. What is also strange is the separate IEC958 controls... it seems to suggest your card does some kind of hardware, on-the-fly AC3 encoding or soemthing... That's not something we probe for but it wouldn't be too hard to support if it didn't have this combined channel also :( I'll post links to my reports on alsa-devel list.

Thanks Colin is in your hands hello

Pinging, because nothing has happened with this report for more than 3 months, it still has the status NEW or REOPENED.

There isn't much we can do until we can convince some alsa developer to fix this sadly :( I do come across this issue periodically and do try to poke people, but I'm not in a position to be able to fix it myself.

If we could (temporarily, until upstream comes with a fix) close bugs as RESOLVED-UPSTREAM, I would suggest to do that, but we don't have that resolution. Can you please give the link to the upstream bug report?

Upstream doesn't have a bug tracker worth using, it's just mailing list posts and IRC discussions.... :s
I suppose this bug is valid for Mageia 2, too, or am I wrong about that (did some magic happen upstream?)
with mageia 2 mauro hasn't this issue anymore.. hence, i'm closing this bug. mauro, if you encounter again this problem, feel free to reopen this bug. cheers, Marcello
