Description Mihail Bc 2016-07-21 12:28:04 CEST
In your installer I couldnt find any partitioner, there was option only to delete partitions, not to create ones, even in the advanced feature mode. Also it lacks the back button, in case you want to reverse to previous step. And when I selected use entire disk, it made several partitions, including one of 14 gb for Winjunk! Why is that?? Sorry guys, you must do better if you want to compete with other distros. I know its volunteer work but...

Thanks for this very helpful bug report, this constructive feedback will greatly help improve the quality of the distribution. Should we send you some goodies to as a thankyou for your generous involvement on our community distribution?

You probably missed the "Custom disk partitioning" entry: http://doc.mageia.org/installer/5/en/content/doPartitionDisks.html

ha-ha, Remi, well let me tell you something, when clicking custom partitioning, nothing happened, only displayed the structure of hdd, you havent provided print screen with that tab, you only showed there is something called custom partitioning with radio button to check, and that is all. Review your faults, cut the irony.

"there was option only to delete partitions, not to create ones"

This suggests either that there is no free space on the disk, or that your disk is MBR format and you have already created 4 primary partitions. In either case you would need to delete one of the existing partitions in order to create new partitions.

Since none of us hit this issue, there is no way we can find out what happened without your help.

Please attach

   /root/report.bug.xz

of this installation to this bug report and change its status from "RESOLVED - INVALID" to "REOPENED", so that we can look into it.

If you've already overwritten that installation, then please re-install Mageia, choosing to use the entire disk again and then, when you reach the "Media Selection" or "Desktop Selection" screen:

* switch to tty to with Ctrl+Alt+F2
* insert a USB key
* type "bug"
(see https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Triage_guide#Traditional_installer )
* attach report.bug that's written to the USB key to this bug report
* change the status of this report as mentioned above.

James, it was gpt, not mbr and yes, I have tried to manage them after I hit use entire disk, so I think there were more primary partitions than what it had to, but this was done automatically by your installer.

Questions: why do you have to fragment the hdd so badly? I think it made 7 partitions on mine. Why does it allocate 14gb for windows automatically??

The problem with the installer is old in Mageia, since v. 2 or 3. Cant you modify it to be more friendly and customizable? Again, 7 partitions of which 1 is for Winjunk is a very stupid idea. Sorry.

Marja

I have already installed Mageia, so the problem is someway behind. I do, sadly, have 7 partitions, not how I wanted it. Please make it so that your installer would be more friendly and simple, even for this 6 future stable release. It only needs a litlle tweak!

Resolution: INVALID => OLD

How can we improve Mageia if you don't supply us with the information we need?

Please do attach /root/report.bug.xz from that install!

Ouch

Sorry

That should be:

Patches welcome.

You have to understand that the situation you describe is obviously uncommon, else we would be aware of it already. Mageia's installer is not supposed to create 14 GB Windows partitions out of the blue, and the custom partitioner is supposed to work; it looks like that: http://doc.mageia.org/installer/5/en/content/diskdrake.html

If it behaved weirdly in your case, which is likely else you wouldn't have started this "bug report"/rant, you need to keep this in mind and describe (politely, i.e. without titling your bug report "Lame installer") what happened, what you expected, and provide the debugging information that is being asked for.

Without more information, this is a non-bug as nobody can reproduce it apart from you so far.

Sorry, it was the laptop of my friend, I hope to be able to reproduce the report, however, I dont want to be unpolite, but it is true, you have some more things to refurbish. Try to look it as a newcomer and dont treat it like something common. You are used to these things like rutine. And look at other distros. See Mint Ultimate Edition, PCLInuxOS, Gecko, they are very friendly.

When would you have time to try that? Or when could you ask your friend to attach /root/drakx/report.bug.xz to this report?

> I dont want to be unpolite

That's good to know :-) We don't want to be impolite, either ;-)

We still lack the needed information.

@ pterjan, tv

Close as worksforme?

Closing as worksforme, because no one else hit this issue, and because so far no one found some lines in our code that could cause this.

@ anyone who reproduces this issue:

Please reopen this report and attach /root/drakx/report.bug.xz from that install
