Sorry for responding so late. Does it make any difference if you run dvgrab as root?

$ dvgrab -f raw does the job.
> $ dvgrab -f raw > > does the job. Thanks. So it works :) I can't find here http://www.kinodv.org/article/view/46/1/14/ nor here http://www.kinodv.org/article/view/46/1/14/ nor when reading the dvgrab man and info pages, what dvgrab should do when you don't give any options, but I could very well be overlooking something. And of course, if it can't do without an option, it shouldn't tell it didn't detect a camera but ask for the option instead. What happens now when you do $ dvgrab ?
It used to be the same error $ dvgrab Error: no camera exists I updated the system yesterday. Now $ dvgrab Found AV/C device with GUID 0x008088030a60e61a Waiting for DV... Capture Started ^C"dvgrab-003.dv": 33.76 MiB 295 frames timecode 00:00:10.05 date 2009.06.27 19:38:06 Capture Stopped
I don't really think $ dvgrab should work when no options are given. Not getting a message that you should give an option when you haven't given one, might be an upstream thing. Anyway, it works for you now, the original bug report was that it didn't work. I'm closing this bug. Feel free to reopen it if you don't agree
