Hi. Would you mind to confirm if matemenu-vanilla-layout or matemenu-mageia-layout packages installed? This should be something that post install script fails...

Source RPM: mate-panel-1.14.0-1.mga6 => mate-menus-1.14.0-2.mga6

Comment 2 Doug Laidlaw 2016-05-19 21:50:32 CEST
Yes, matemenu-mageia-layout-1.14.0-2 is installed, also lib64mate-menu2 and mate-menus, all same release number.
Comment 3 Doug Laidlaw 2016-05-21 00:31:14 CEST
This bug has cured itself.

I recently reinstalled Cauldron twice. Cal the original and the two reinstalls Nos 1,2,3.

No. 1: bug was present.
No. 2: bug still present, so I filed this report.
No. 3: Reinstalled last night because the video bug gave me no desktop. I was offered the choice of matemenu-mageia or matemenu-vanilla. I chose matemenu-mageia. Bug has gone.
Comment 4 Doug Laidlaw 2016-05-21 11:32:42 CEST
Now the bug is back. There was a new matemenu-mageia-layout waiting. I installed that. I rebooted, and the menu worked.

Then a second package was in the Updates. I installed that and shut down. On next bootup, the situation was back where I started. I prefer Xfce, but MATE is easier on resources.
Comment 5 Atilla ÖNTAŞ 2016-05-22 21:59:33 CEST
Interesting. Do you hava /etc/xdg/menus/mate-applications.menu symlink in place? There is some kind of error in update-alternatives usage. If that symlink is not in place, then would you mind to run as root:

update-alternatives --auto matemenu
Comment 6 Doug Laidlaw 2016-05-23 04:20:23 CEST
/etc/xdg/menus/mate-applications.menu is present but is an ordinary file, not a symlink.

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3891 Oct 16 2014 mate-applications.menu

I was in MATE, so I ran

sudo update-alternatives --auto matemenu

The menu came good immediately.

(It may not be your interest, but all the other files similar to mate-applications.menu are ordinary files, too, but Xfce isn't
there at all, and it doesn't have this problem.)
Comment 7 Doug Laidlaw 2016-05-24 04:10:12 CEST
Stranger still!

What I did in Comment 6 was in Mga 5 - Official, and it doesn't display the problem.

I subsequently ran

sudo update-alternatives --auto matemenu

in Cauldron and confirmed that it was the cure.

Is it only me?
Comment 8 Atilla ÖNTAŞ 2016-05-30 14:36:28 CEST
That would be an upgrade issue for mate-menus package. I' ll check it. Our cauldron mate-menus package now provide two selective applications menu layout with their respective packages: matemenu-mageia and matemenu-vanilla. They are managed by update-alternatives but obviously i broke upgrading mechanism. Please be patient until i get some spare time to work on this and get it fixed.
Comment 9 Doug Laidlaw 2016-05-31 05:13:30 CEST
OK. I have the Mageia version installed.
Comment 10 Doug Laidlaw 2016-05-31 05:20:47 CEST
This probably isn't the right place, but updates a few minutes ago gave me a conflict between desktop-common-data and the current mate-panel < 1.14.0-2. Shouldn't I already have mate-panel = 1.14.0-2? Anyway, the conflict will no doubt resolve itself next time.
