Description Remco Rijnders 2011-06-19 08:03:47 CEST
I'd like to use r2e on my Mageia box. r2e is a program that allows RSS-feeds to be retrieved and sent to you by email.

Comment 1 Remco Rijnders 2011-07-25 20:40:05 CEST
With the help of Stormi, I've packaged rss2email and it was submitted to 1/updates_testing as this package was present in Mandriva but not yet included in the release of Mageia 1.

This package has a dependency on python-html2text which has also been packaged and submitted to updates_testing. If you can please help test these packages, I'd appreciate it.

Advisories:

"This update adds rss2email which was present in Mandriva 2010.2 but
missing in Mageia 1."

"This update adds python-html2text which was present in Mandriva 2010.2 but
missing in Mageia 1. The rss2email tool depends on this package."

Some notes for testing this update:

From the command line / terminal window give the command:

r2e add url_of_rss_feed

The tool itself will give instructions on how to set it up ready for use. Once you've followed these steps, issue the command

r2e run

to pull the feed and send emails out.

For this to work a working smtp server on the local machine is required.

If rss2email requires an smtp server shouldn't the spec file have a requirement for sendmail-command ?

Requires: sendmail-command

If it works as I think it does urpmi will prompt for the user to select one of the packages providing sendmail (postfix, dma, msmtp etc)

Derek,

Thank you for your feedback and advice. When writing the above instructions I assumed my own typical use case. After looking at it closer I withdraw the line that a working smtp server *on the local machine* is required.

In the default configuration it will attempt to deliver mail through localhost, but by editing ~/.rss2email/config.py one can also set their ISP's smtp server or a server elsewhere on the network.

Thanks and regards,

Remco

Tests OK on x86_64

I should have tried it out before I made my last comment. rss2email requires a full smtp server listening on port 25, not just a sendmail command.

Tests OK on i586

Please push python-html2text-3.02-1.1.mga1 and rss2email-2.71-1.1.mga1 to updates

Advisories:

"This update adds rss2email which was present in Mandriva 2010.2 but
missing in Mageia 1. It adds also python-html2text which was needed by rss2email."
