Hi Sabrina, After such failed attempts to log in: * Please switch to TTY2 with ctrl+alt+F2 and log in as user * type: mkdir USBkey * attach a USB key * type: dmesg (to see whether the USB key is sdb, sdc, sdd, etc.) * become root * if the USB key is e.g. sdc, then type: mount /dev/sdc1 USBkey/ (replace "sdc1" with "sdb1", "sdd1", etc., if needed) * type: journalctl -ab > USBkey/18397journal.txt * type: poweroff (to shut your system down) * attach 18397journal.txt to this bug report Thanks :-)

This does not function as you want . But i have extracted it for you. Before you use this read this : The problem might be the implemented nv-driver . 1) At first login on PLASMA the text quality was extremely poor so i scaled the screenfont a little bit larger . After this , Plasma is nothing for me , i logged in on LXDE . Then i (must) connect to ethernet because of the bug-report . Later i downloaded newest driver nv-361.42.run . Reason: I have a brandnew 55"-UHD-TV, >1080p is very very big on this, and wanted to know if the graphiccard makes 2,5k or 4k . But i dont know if i installed at this time the nv-driver . After logging out i clicked on RESTART , because i was not able to read the buttontext , so i want to know what happens . 2) I read purely by chance in another bug that others have also problems with this impolemented 420-or-later-nv-nouveau-driver . 3) Yesterday night after a film i installed (maybe again) this nv-361.42.run with DKMS-kernel-module . drakx11 messaged after configuring "fatal server error" . Other Messages : Nouveau-kernel-driver incompatible with 361.42. Reenable Nouveau = del /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-installer-disable-nouveau.conf ...failed. Others on system : - ehci-hcd should be loaded before uhci/ohci , not after . - Failed to start Plymouth Boot Screen . The attachment "ab" is not from this "last boot" as you want , is brandnew , "a" is all (3,8MB not uploadable ). So . ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS NOUVEAU-NV-DRIVER ??? Maybe the "bug" was only scaling the screen font and the appearing "strange window" only bad luck . - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The system hangs now at "starting version 229". I will reinstall the mga-6-dev1 for you , if you have any wishes please feel free..
It was interesting FOR ME . Mistake-Free installing is a very difficult thing . For w98se i need fully 3 month , the system is now running since 15 years . Only 1 bug (Acrobat) known. # I have now analyzed the timeline in [journalctl -a] . Installing the nv-361.42 is first quoted on line 20216 . That's 10 hours later than the bug appears. 0001 6.5./07:21 start installing system 3549 kernel: NVRM: loading NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 352.79 Wed Jan 13 16:17:53 PST 2016 3607 6.5./9:32 dkms-autorebuild.sh[692]: nvidia-current (352.79-2.mga6.nonfree): Already installed on this kernel. xxxx 6.5./10:10 email aktivating bugreport 10:17 bugreport sended ... arrived 10:21 line 7620 8880 7.5./7:56 NVRM: loading NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 352.79 Wed Jan 13 16:17:53 PST 2016 7.5./10:10 "bug 18383" : "I've sended the bugreport , i logged out , i clicked on the right button , an window appears with the mouse-"X" . Hi Sabrina, I never managed to really understand this issue and I also failed to understand whom to assign it to. From the description, I understood that you reached SDDM or another display manager. However, in the attached log I failed to see anything about a starting display manager. (In reply to Sabrina Gottlieb from comment #4) > It was interesting FOR ME . Mistake-Free installing is a very difficult > thing . Does the above mean that this issue is not a bug? Kind regards, Marja

I don´t know if this was a 'real' bug . > Mistake-Free installing is a very difficult thing . < This you can repeat again and again .. Interesting is , i deleted this Log last christmas . I work mainly on w98se and in web with w2k . Only some https-sites are not available . If i need this sites i start with mageia-5/32 on a P4/2,4GHz . This is very annoying . So i bought a Raspi-3B to switch only the monitor between DVI and HDMI . But i don´t want to exchange Mageia-5 with newest Raspbian . The problem is : i dont have the time to put all my web-files to Mageia . I work with very old software (Corel-5 from 1994) so i have very difficult format-problems . The solution is to work with more than ONE PC . For Mageia i had bought three AMD-FX but i have no time to install this machines . So this very old installing-problem was remaining on this FX-machine . But i don´t know today what --exactly-- happened in those days . Again : > Mistake-Free installing is a very difficult thing . < You have to give 100% . Your question must be unanswered . I don´t know if this was a 'real' bug . ---------------- TIP : I remember on the time the 16-bit were changed into 32-bit . 'Now' we are changing 32-bit into 64-bit . Even then problems also today . AMD-FX is for 32- and also 64-bit . If you use hardware (or software) which is ""32-/64-bit-M I X E D"" many problems could follow . With Corel-5 (designed for win 3.1) i only can work up to w98se . On w2k/XP only TrueTypeFonts are available because the standalone Adobe-Type-Manager were integrated into MS-OS . So Corel cannot get access ... including other crazy 'mistakes' with newer OS . On hardware there were much more problems including graphic+sound . A little newer interface ? Your machine will never - or ever - run . Ähh, NEVER TOUCH A RUNNING SYSTEM ! > Mistake-Free installing is a very difficult thing . < SOFTWARE runs on HARDWARE Could you imagine that 'problem'?
Thanks for your reply, Sabrina. I'll close this report as OLD, then ;-)
