How come you have such an old Mga5 version of drakconf in cauldron? It should be
drakconf-13.4-1.mga6 now.

If you're using sddm, then this is the result of the fix for bug 16493

Can you please check whether it is possible to manually delete the login name of the first user, and type the login name of the 2nd user?

Comment 2 Maurice Batey 2016-04-07 23:18:13 CEST
I've corrected the RPM info to: drakconf-13.4-1.mga6.src.rpm.
    Apologies for pasting wrong copy.

Can confirm that login greeter DOES allow the last user name to be overwritten, and login to 2nd user succeeds. Hadn't realised such a change had been made!

However, the problem with Switch User remains. There appears to be NO WAY to specify the name of another user...

Comment 3 Marja Van Waes 2016-04-08 11:03:19 CEST
IIUC, bug 16493 only asked for an option to disable the user list in sddm.

It would make sense to have that by default for systems that need a high security level.

However, for most family computers this is not needed. Can they have their clickable user faces again, please?

On a testing machine where you may have several test users, how is one to know what they are called if they do not display in the login dialog?
This is security gone mad!

I use the breeze theme for sddm. It provides a separate icon for each user.

Install sddm-kcm and in System Settings - Startup and shutdown you can choose the theme for sddm.

The breeze theme has a bug in that it always displays a warning that capslock is activated, even when it's not. I think I read that that bug is fixed in a later version of the breeze package.

It seems the I misremembered, but there's a bug report bug#18110
Comment 7 Barry Jackson 2016-04-08 15:21:35 CEST
Thanks Jim that is excellent (apart from caps lock bug).

I really think that should be the default login setting for Mageia 6.

i.e. Switch/login to another user (not one already logged in).

Now that someone has commandeered the title of this report, do I need to raise a separate one for the Switch To shortcoming? :-)

Damn, I misunderstood you.

Probably because that works fine, here: I clicked on the lock icon, to lock my screen, and then chose to start a new session.

I got a new sddm login screen on tty2 then, and could replace my own user name with the name of the test user.
I now have two Plasma5 sessions running: one for marja and one for testfix, and also two sddm sessions.

Can you please try to switch to another user via screenlock in your plasma5 panel and then start a new session from the menu you see?

I'm out in the boondocks with Mageia-5 laptop for a few days, so won't back in the land of Cauldron until Monday p.m.

When you say "I clicked on the lock icon", what/where is that?! I see no such icon here on Mageia-5. Where is it on Mageia-6-dev1 Plasma?
(I do have a screensaver/lock that kicks in after a few minutes, though.)

The way I have always used is via the red 'Leave' icon "Switch User" option, which presents a 'Existing/New Session' login option, which on Mageia-6-dev1 Plasma then takes me to a 'Switch User' screen that fails to show any user but myself (and not overwritable).
I would be quite happy to use another approach that simply takes me to the normal Login greeter, but where does one find that?

For me: on the left of the "Leave - logout, shutdown or reboot" icon. Both icons are grey.

Clicking on it gives a screen like this one
https://www.kde.org/announcements/plasma5.0/screenshots/lockscreen.png

However, if you do not have that icon: Ctrl+Alt+L gives you the same screen.

Clicking "New Session" and then "Create Session" gives a new SDDM screen, with editable user name field.

(Instead of typing Ctrl+Alt+L it is also possible to rightclick on your desktop and select the lockscreen option)

Changing the summary: it would be nice to have this by default for the standard workstation security level.

That is what's been the KDM default for normal end-users in all stable Mageia versions we've had so far.

If it is impossible to let this setting depend on the security level, then I suggest to make "show all users + their faces" the default for all security levels: it is very likely that admins who care about security level will manage to change SDDM to not showing all users. Doing the opposite is much harder for average end-users.

Summary: Please provide an easy way for average end-users to select a known user in sddm => Please show users + their faces in sddm (for standard workstation security level)

Yes, that's fine on Mageia-5, so if also on Mageia-6 then I shall change my ways!

In that case perhaps the Mageia Wiki should warn newcomers to Mageia-6 that they might also have to change their way of achieving Switch User?
