Summary: no boot with I985 intel driver => no boot with I915 intel driver
So after looking the forum post, the driver expect acpi to be working, and you just disabled it with acpi=0, so it complain.

hi, thank you for reply, i am newb sorry i had do : 1-> start live cd with : 2->F4 : by default 3-> option for boot i have write : acpi=0 4-> press enter mageia loading and black screen again thank you
I have install with boot.iso (40 mb) 32 bits, the mageia not boot too :( Some one for help me?
did you try without option ? do you have more details ?
CC: (none) => manuel
I have try boot by default and with too nomodetest=1 only it is always black screen after mageia loading i am newb in mageia i have inly try little mandriva and ubuntu i don't know option
Created attachment 573 [details] I915 error After start "secure mode" there are 3 errors lines during loading... thank you
After testing : No ACPI = start lot lag and freeze after few seconds NO ACPI local = run perfect, but windows size are not perfect I have try, select 850 or later in panel control and press testing = computer black screen and freeze I think, there is very problem with driver :'( How can help you for repair this bad issue ? thank you
Without the same hardware, it would be quite hard to me to help.
problem it is that your lcd screen backlight is turned off it's nothing to do with intel driver and i have same problem acer aspire 5734z and graphics it is intel gma 4500 m and mageia 1 os it's kernel bug what is causing this problem and ubuntu have the same problem http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1742575 in that link is how to start on boot that backlight and simple open terminal/konsole and su root and paste this command or write it to terminal setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B-0 it is helping if you have flashlight to getting light to show to that screen to open terminal

Another option, once you have a way to edit files on the hard drive, would be to add the setpci line to /etc/rc.d/rc.local.
CC: (none) => davidwhodgins
yeah i know that because if you read that page that you need to edit that rc.local file i mean that link below and that was only mean to use with livecd to install that system because that all point was livecd get only black screen and there is no installed system yet

Reassigning it to Thomas as I think bugzilla reset it to the default when tv changed the component.

hello, no help ? :( found : http://915resolution.mango-lang.org/ more here for ubuntu : http://roland-lopez.blogspot.com/2007/03/auto915resolution-ubuntu-resolution-fix.html but my english is bad and i am afraid crash computer :/ thank you
Hello, I have try MGA 2 Alpha 1 32bits on Gnome, when i boot live i have black screen too :'( when can you fix this bug ? :'( thank you, Arnaud
Version: 1 => Cauldron
Priority: Normal => High
on login screen press ctrl+alt+f1 to get to shell login and then write root and root passwd and then write with keyboard command setpci --s 00:02.0 f4.B=00 to get backlight and then you need to edit file /etc/rc.d/rc.local you can do with vim /etc/rc.d/rc.local and put that setpci line to that file to get it on with boot with vim you need to press i to go to writing mode and then press esc and then :wq to save file and quit vim
hi, thank you for reply but it is black screen just after mageia loading...(before login screen)
yeah but it is still go to login screen when mageia boot is finished and you need to follow that my tutorial to get that backlight because that ctrl+alt+f1 command drop that mageia to shell login (text mode without desktop) even if you are logged in and if you are logged in you need to press alt+f2 and enter gnome-terminal and su root and root passwd and that setpci --s 00:02.0 f4.B=00 easy way it is to download mandriva 2010.2 and burn it to cd because it use old kernel and there is no that backlight bug and mount your hard disk and editing that rc.local file there to get it on next boot I did it with that tutorial my self
ok i try it tomorrow, but why it is not fix for Alpha 2?
Pinging, because nothing has happened with this report for more than 3 months, it still has the status NEW or REOPENED. @ tmb Please set status to ASSIGNED if you think this bug was assigned correctly. If for work flow reasons you can't do that, then please put OK on the whiteboard instead.

arnaud have you tested the live of the beta3 ?
Hi, i have try with RC the screen is shutdown again. :( I have try too : https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_2_Errata#Laptop_with_both_Intel_and_ATI_graphics_hardware "rdloaddriver=radeon" it is kernel panic thank you
Well, trying to load radeon on intel hw, does not really help :/ Can you try to boot with "xdriver=vesa" That might get you system up and running and yo can then edit /etc/rc.local and add the "setpci --s 00:02.0 f4.B=00" line
Hi, hum i am newb for be sure : 1- i boot on liveCD 2-change language on LiveCDmenu F2 in french 3- i press F6, boot by default and i remove command line i right just "xdriver=vesa" (withour "") is it ok ? because i have kernel panic screen (because picture more than 1Mo) : http://cjoint.com/12mi/BEqijcZ7zCK.htm thank you
No, sorry for not being specific. Dont remove the text that is already there, just add it before or after
CC: manuel => (none)
okay i try... in default live it is black screen but in secure live it is okay it run :) But : Gnome crash (works in restricted mode may be secure launch?) Tactical run perfect (it is laptop) but usb mouse is very lagged :/) thank you
bootloader line: acpi_osi=Linux works with fn key and left and right arrow keys and backlight is back on,i don't know why it's not fixed in linux kernel,this bug has been in kernel bugzilla now few years and they don't have done anything to fix this bug.
Hi, This bug was filed against cauldron, but we do not have cauldron at the moment. Please report whether this bug is still valid for Mageia 2. Thanks :) Cheers, marja

Arnaud: can you confirm if kernel-desktop-3.5.1 from Cauldron is OK for you?

Trying eg: http://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/Mageia/distrib/cauldron/x86_64/media/core/release/kernel-desktop-3.5.1-1.mga3-1-1.mga3.x86_64.rpm
It it not run 3.5.1 in cauldron. But for your file i am in i586 not x86_64
I don't understand your first sentence. As for the second s/x86_64/i586/ is your friend: http://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/Mageia/distrib/cauldron/i586/media/core/release/kernel-desktop-3.5.1-1.mga3-1-1.mga3.i586.rpm
I am already in cauldron with 3.5.1 and i have still the blacklitght.
Not fixed in 3.5.2
Status: NEW => RESOLVEDResolution: (none) => OLD
@ Arnaud Don't you have this hardware anymore, or don't you think this bug will ever get fixed, or .... ? Just wondering why you closed this bug as OLD ;)
@Marja : i gave this computer at my brother (with windows) and i put mageia on my another laptop (with ati radeon and it is run perfect)
Seems possibly related to bug 6077
Big good news that backlight is fixed in cauldron kernel 3.5 so somebody can close this bug because it's against cauldron so this is fixed.
