So after looking the forum post, the driver expect acpi to be working, and you just disabled it with acpi=0, so it complain.

Comment 8 Michael Scherer 2011-06-19 15:51:59 CEST
Without the same hardware, it would be quite hard to me to help.
Comment 9 Otto Leipälä 2011-09-05 15:39:11 CEST
problem it is that your lcd screen backlight is turned off it's nothing to do with intel driver and i have same problem acer aspire 5734z and graphics it is intel gma 4500 m and mageia 1 os
it's kernel bug what is causing this problem and ubuntu have the same problem
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1742575

in that link is how to start on boot that backlight and simple open terminal/konsole and su root and paste this command or write it to terminal setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B-0 it is helping if you have flashlight to getting light to show to that screen to open terminal

Comment 10 Dave Hodgins 2011-09-06 00:31:41 CEST
Another option, once you have a way to edit files on the hard drive,
would be to add the setpci line to /etc/rc.d/rc.local.

CC: (none) => davidwhodgins

Comment 11 Otto Leipälä 2011-09-06 05:45:10 CEST
yeah i know that because if you read that page that you need to edit that rc.local file i mean that link below and that was only mean to use with livecd to install that system because that all point was livecd get only black screen and there is no installed system yet

Reassigning it to Thomas as I think bugzilla reset it to the default when tv changed the component.

Comment 16 Otto Leipälä 2011-11-29 17:19:06 CET
on login screen press ctrl+alt+f1 to get to shell login and then write root and root passwd and then write with keyboard command setpci --s 00:02.0 f4.B=00 to get backlight and then you need to edit file /etc/rc.d/rc.local you can do with vim /etc/rc.d/rc.local and put that setpci line to that file to get it on with boot
with vim you need to press i to go to writing mode and then press esc and then :wq to save file and quit vim
Comment 17 Arnaud Vacquier 2011-11-30 01:06:19 CET
hi,

thank you for reply but it is black screen just after mageia loading...(before login screen)
Comment 18 Otto Leipälä 2011-11-30 16:48:21 CET
yeah but it is still go to login screen when mageia boot is finished and you need to follow that my tutorial to get that backlight because that ctrl+alt+f1 command drop that mageia to shell login (text mode without desktop) even if you are logged in and if you are logged in you need to press alt+f2 and enter gnome-terminal and su root and root passwd and that setpci --s 00:02.0 f4.B=00

easy way it is to download mandriva 2010.2 and burn it to cd because it use old kernel and there is no that backlight bug and mount your hard disk and editing that rc.local file there to get it on next boot

I did it with that tutorial my self
Comment 19 Arnaud Vacquier 2011-12-01 01:02:29 CET
ok i try it tomorrow, but why it is not fix for Alpha 2?
Comment 20 Marja Van Waes 2012-03-14 21:31:32 CET
Pinging, because nothing has happened with this report for more than 3 months, it still has the status NEW or REOPENED.

@ tmb

Please set status to ASSIGNED if you think this bug was assigned correctly. If for work flow reasons you can't do that, then please put OK on the whiteboard instead.

Comment 22 Arnaud Vacquier 2012-05-14 08:28:38 CEST
Hi,

i have try with RC the screen is shutdown again. :(

I have try too : https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_2_Errata#Laptop_with_both_Intel_and_ATI_graphics_hardware

"rdloaddriver=radeon" it is kernel panic

thank you
Comment 23 Thomas Backlund 2012-05-14 08:52:34 CEST
Well, trying to load radeon on intel hw, does not really help :/

Can you try to boot with "xdriver=vesa"

That might get you system up and running and yo can then edit /etc/rc.local and add the "setpci --s 00:02.0 f4.B=00" line
Comment 24 Arnaud Vacquier 2012-05-16 08:10:28 CEST
Hi,

hum i am newb for be sure :

1- i boot on liveCD
2-change language on LiveCDmenu F2 in french
3- i press F6, boot by default and i remove command line i right just "xdriver=vesa" (withour "")

is it ok ?

because i have kernel panic

screen (because picture more than 1Mo) : http://cjoint.com/12mi/BEqijcZ7zCK.htm

Comment 27 Otto Leipälä 2012-05-18 10:56:58 CEST
bootloader line: acpi_osi=Linux works with fn key and left and right arrow keys and backlight is back on,i don't know why it's not fixed in linux kernel, this bug has been in kernel bugzilla now few years and they don't have done anything to fix this bug.

Big good news that backlight is fixed in cauldron kernel 3.5 so somebody can close this bug because it's against cauldron so this is fixed.
