Description of problem: When arriving at chapter desktop selection it offers "KDE", "Gnome" and "Custom", but the first one should be called Plasma now. [ When going into "custom" the Plasma is already selected by default and KDE is not available. ]

Not so sure about this. Surely "Plasma" is just the current flavour of KDE and anyone looking for KDE who has never even heard of "Plasma" will be confused or even think KDE is not an option. I would say it should be left as it is or maybe changed to "KDE Plasma 5".

Okay, my 2 cents: make it "Plasma (successor to KDE)"
But KDE still exists as a project, it has not been disbanded in favour of a project called Plasma has it? That would be like saying that Jesse is the successor to Debian - it's still Debian - just this month/year's flavour.
If you say so. But Mageia is not having KDE anymore. So in that case I would say "Plasma (replacing KDE)"
Essentially no; KDE now exists only as "community", not as "project", at least they themselves say so See https://www.kde.org/community/whatiskde/: "KDE is an international team co-operating on development and distribution of Free, Open Source Software for desktop and portable computing" and "This includes Plasma Desktop, KDE's innovative desktop interface"
It does't matter really: a previous or unfamiliar user looks for "KDE" and does not find it. If he chooses KDE he should not get Plasma without warning, especially if he goes to custom and can select all the names there, but none shows 'KDE": he may want to go away disgruntled !
I still vote for 'KDE Plasma' or 'KDE Plasma 5' See: https://www.kde.org/workspaces/ 'KDE' is still the main branding and 'Plasma' is used in reference to Widgets and Workspaces.
Or simply KF5 (KDE Frameworks 5).

Yes, but who has heard of that in the real world - I had to Google it a few weeks ago as I was getting confused between Plasma and kf5 :\ They should have called it KDE5, but they didn't.
(In reply to David GEIGER from comment #9) > Or simply KF5 (KDE Frameworks 5). KF5 are libraries not a DE.

Users don't have to know about KF5 ( how many know about Qt ? ;) ). The DE is Plasma this is a saner as KDE is more the DE + all the applications.

I agree, but to make it clear to new (and existing) users who may have heard of KDE but not Plasma, I think the option title should be 'KDE Plasma'. Anyhow I'm out of here as I keep repeating myself.
