Is that before or after reaching the Display Manager? > Same for both Plasma and Gnome. > Boots to a working desktop on real hardware. Can you boot with splash=verbose instead of quiet, and record the messages you see (especially the last ones)

Hi William I can not reproduce your report. I have installed ISO Name: Mageia-6-dev1-x86_64-DVD.iso Date.txt: Fri Mar 11 13:49:02 CET 2016 md5sum: 9e3744a77d2dc74e945a7fe4aca6f4b7 Installed Gnome, rebooted and launched as expected. Possibly this has been fixed or I have different settings in Virtualbox. I only settings I changed from default are, up the video ram to 128 MB, enable 3D acceleration and change networking to bridged.

Further investigation. I can reproduce this report when using ssdm instead gdm. William would you change to gdm and see if that works for you.
I think I have found the bug. My research tells me sddm requires opengl and Virtualbox only provide opengl after installing the guest additions. So I switched to gdm and installed the guest additions and switched back to sddm. It booted correctly with the login screen. I found this reference which seem to have relevance. https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/575 'It's not SDDM fault as it's Qt5Gui which needs OpenGL 2+ features. Imho good solution would be if SDDM before starting sddm-greeter checked for OpenGL 2+ and if this is not met then export QT_XCB_FORCE_SOFTWARE_OPENGL=1 to use software rendering.' S

Try the latest Live media isos
Just installed last dev1 ISO : It's a big black hole after to reboot. Install yourself from a scratch to reproduce... Gilles Caulier
I think we should wait for dev2 ISO which avout there.
I found the problem about dev1 iso black screen : disabling 3D display extension in VirtualBox machine properties fix the problem. Gilles Caulier
