Start VLC, and select a file from the "recent media" menu which has been moved or deleted. If you have "repeat playlist" enabled, or whatever the name in english is (répéter la liste en boucle), then VLC sends an error message again and again due to the non-existent target. You have no other choice to kill the application (kill -9 PID). Once VLC emitted an error message about a file, it shouldn't try to throw it again and again.

Did you recently report this somewhere else, too? This looks so familiar, but I can't find a similar bug or dev ml mail. Anyway, assigning to maintainer

I mentioned it in bug 17724.
I can reproduce this problem here on Cauldron as well. I'm going to try building the upstream version from git master source.

(In reply to Shlomi Fish from comment #3) > I can reproduce this problem here on Cauldron as well. I'm going to try > building the upstream version from git master source. I can reproduce the problem with VLC-3.0-git-master built from source. Marking as UPSTREAM.

I found https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/6339 meanwhile.
Wow, their bug tracker is so useless!! https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/11961 has been marked as a duplicate, but I see nowhere in the UI the original ticket ID. So no idea if this problem is being tracked somewhere or not.
This bug is old - no idea if it got fixed in Mageia 6 or 5, if not the bug could be set as resolved old. But anyway: Testing in Mageia 7: vlc-3.0.12.1-1.1.mga7.x86_64 from testing I cant reproduce, so fixed :)
