Description Richard Couture 2015-12-05 02:40:23 CET
Description of problem:

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
When installing a new HP MFP M176N Color laser multi function printer, I am advised that a proprietary printer driver is needed and when I indicate my permission to install it, I get a checksum error. The printer absolutely wont print without this driver.

I went to the open hplip site and downloaded and installed hplip-3.14.6-plugin.run
without errors, however, when I print I get

**** Incorrect IEEE 1284 Device ID: ['3-distribution/HP/hp-color_laserjet_pro_mfp_m176n.ppd.gz', 'drv:///hp/hpcups.drv/hp-color_laserjet_pro_mfp_m176n.ppd']
**** Actual ID is MFG:Hewlett-Packard;MDL:HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M176n;
**** Please report a bug against the HPLIP component

I am running MGA5 with all updates installed

I got it to work on one machine by urpme the hplip and the hplip-hpijs-ppds
and installing from openprinting.org and hplip at sourceforge.

in the hplip package, I had to
configure --enable-foomatic-ppd-install --enable-foomatic-drv-install --prefix=/usr

in oerder to get the foomatic-rip-hplip file that goes in the /usr/lib/cups/filter directory.

Now the printing works as well as network scanning and it installed it's proprietary driver just fine, without checksum errors.

I hope this helps in creating the package in a manner that supports the HP MFP printers

This package has no registered maintainer, so assigning to packagers collectively.

To packagers: if one of you is the maintainer for this package, please update the maintainers database.

Thanks a lot for reporting this bug. However, we cannot support drivers you download from other web sites. The checksum error you are getting indicates teh file that you are trying to install is corrupted.
We have an updated driver in backports_testing and our QA people are working on testing it. This is the newest HPLIP package available.

The checksum error that I received was not generated by some file that I got off the web from some dubious site.

When instaling the MFP M176N printer, through drakconf, all goes fine until you print a test page, at which time you are advised that a proprietary driver is needed to accomplish this. It, hplip-setup via drakconf, then asks you if you wish to download it. Saying yes results in the checksum error.

I do not expect the Mageia team to support stuff that I pick up off the sidewalk.

Thank you

Richard

Happy news!

The hplip from backports-testing works fine for printing and scanning. I have not tried it for fax, as I have no idea how, nor do I have much interest in finding out.

Hope you decide to upgrade the distro-backports hplip, that isn't functioning correctly, with the backports-testing which looks pretty good.

Feel free to contact me if you need some test done via the MFP-M176n Color LaserJet or the P2015dn Duplex LaserJet printers.

Thanks

Richard

Thanks Richard for this good report. The version in backports_testing (bug #17186) is now tested and ready to be pushed to backports. I will no close this bug report as fixed/resolved
