Could we have kismet in mageia?
Sorry URL http://www.kismetwireless.net/
Well, nobody seemed interested in Kismet, at least in a half-way recent version for Mandriva: https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=62630 But i don't know why. I think i'll go for it.

I've already imported it, needs review.
Sorry for not answering back. Has been submitted to cauldron, and will shortly be available for Mageia 1. Marking as Resolved.

Ahh,forgot that this needs to go to updates_testing and needs to pass QA validation. Reopening to use this report for the validation.

On cauldron kismet-2011.03.R2-1.mga2.i586.rpm paigaldamine andmekandjalt /var/cache/urpmi/rpms Valmistumine... ##################################################################### 1/1: kismet ##################################################################### grep: ^piddir=: No such file or directory [root@kaaber anz]#
In the postinstall scriptlet, it has the line if ! grep -e -q "^piddir=" /etc/kismet.conf Either the -e has to be removed, or the order of the options changed, as in if ! grep -q -e "^piddir=" /etc/kismet.conf

Hmmm, would be interesting to know why this worked the last time i built and installed this? Fix commited and waiting for submission.
There is now kismet-2011.03.R2-1.1.mga1 in core/updates_testing to validate. Suggested advisory: ------------------- This update adds the package Kismet to Mageia repositories, and updates it to the latest version. It was not available before for Mageia, but for Mandriva. ------------------------------------------------------- Steps to reproduce: - install/update to update candidate - make sure the program starts and works correctly link to upstream documentation: http://www.kismetwireless.net/documentation.shtml don't forget to add a capture source (point 5. in documentation/README) before starting kismet! PS: If anyone can think of a better advisory for such packages, don't hesitate to post one.

Tested OK i586 Had to stop the network service then set the source as eth1 and type ipw2200 Found some networks I didn't know existed and one with no security at all. This doesn't appear to be using suid as recommended so has to be run as root. I created kismet group and added my user to it, logged out and back in but it wouldn't start the server. Suggested Advisory ------------------ This update adds the the latest version of Kismet which was present in Mandriva 2010 but missing from Mageia 1. For full documentation please see:- http://www.kismetwireless.net/documentation.shtml ------------------ Source RPM: kismet-2011.03.R2-1.1.mga1.src.rpm I'm not able to test this x86_64
I can test on my x86_64, but I don't find the package . Could I have some instruction because I am not expert in kismet or sniffing ? Bye Stblack

Stefano, thankyou, it is in Core Updates Testing. You might need to update the media if you don't regularly use that one. Once you've set up the source (ie eth0, eth1, wlan0) whatever it is and tell it to start the server when it asks it starts doing its thing. If it doesn't automatically detect the adapter type see the documentation link above, in section 12 it has a list of types which are not automatically recognised and you can tell it. Run it as root and you might need to use 'service network stop' before it will capture properly or if it crashes.
Tested OK x86_64 with a borrowed dongle. Update validated. Advisory ----------------- This update adds the wifi utility Kismet which was present in Mandriva 2010 but missing from Mageia 1 ----------------- Source RPM: kismet-2011.03.R2-1.1.mga1.src.rpm Could sysadmin please push from core/updates_testing to core/updates Thankyou!
