If you start DragonPlayer for a video, title actions like "Play all", "Play", etc., are clickable fields on the DragonPlayer window. However, if you move the mouse cursor inside the DragonPlayer window to click on a choice, the cursor becomes invisible, giving you no idea whether the mouse is actually on the selection or not.

VLC exhibits the same behavior. Parole does not.

Isn't the mouse cursor supposed to be invisible inside of a video player window?

I'm not an expert, but I would expect that it would disappear after a certain number of seconds of not being moved, and then reappear immediately if moved. Or just stay visible all the time and leave it to the user to move it out of the frame if it's in the way.

The fact remains that if there are mouse-selectable fields in the video, not having a visible cursor makes them useless.

Flash and other players like youtube are good examples. It's not always obvious which player is used for which site, but I've seen Flash videos where the control panel (stop/pause, progress bar) only appears if the mouse cursor is over the window, and stays visible as long as it is. I've seen others where that happens, but the control panel disappears if the mouse cursor isn't moved for a certain period of time.

It would be interesting to know if these behaviors are configurable either at build or execution time.

Adding more packagers in CC to help debugging the issue, since we don't know what component is the cause at the moment.

Nope the mouse cursor isn't supposed to be invisible, how would you click any button in the player window if the cursor would be invisible all the time? Usually most video players will hide the mouse cursor after a few seconds during playback in fullscreen mode, but not during window mode.

So this only seems to happen with QT-based players? And does the problem also show up when you simply run dragonplayer or vlc and then trying to access the menus, i.e. with no playback happening? Also you mentioned title actions, do you refer to menu actions or buttons or what did you mean by that?

Also, what cursor theme do you use, and what desktop environment, and what graphics card/driver?

Sorry, I missed this.

The problem is fixed in vlc, but not dragon player. The problem only occurs during playback; the cursor is visible in the main window otherwise.

This is Plasma/nvidia, and whatever theme MGA installs by default (I never mess with themes).

is it still valid for you with latest cauldron ?

Comment 10 Frank Griffin 2019-02-19 22:26:52 CET
I'm closing this because Dragon hangs immediately in current cauldron and I can't determine whether this still occurs or not.
