Description w unruh 2015-11-08 06:42:35 CET
alpine 2.03 which is what is contained in Mageia 5 was released 3 years ago (re-alpine)
Eduardo Chappa has released a newer version, 2.20 at the beginning of 2015 and is actively developing it.
Mageia should probably include a more recent version in the distribution.

http://patches.freeiz.com/alpine/

His explanation in comp.mail.pine is

> When Alpine was discontinued, the Alpine-team released version 2.00, but
> they had an unfinished version 2.01, which was released as the first
> version of re-alpine. Then re-alpine 2.03 had some improvements over the
> 2.01 version. However, no more development has continued from there, so no
> bugs have been fixed, since their last release.
>
> I released version 2.10 fixing the bugs in version 2.03 and 2.01, and
> adding a few features. Alpine 2.20 improves S/MIME support. The current
> alpha version is 2.20.9, is still under development. I just made an update
> today. So, Alpine development continues, but re-alpine development is not
> clear where it is going. I hope they will restart development some day.

> I hope this helps to clarify the difference between the two. (alpine and re-alpine)

Could Mageia please put in this year's alpine 2.21 from Chappa. 2.03 is by now extremely old, unsupported, and buggy. Please.
Yes, some of us still use alpine.
Is the maintainer cjw still around?

Note that Fedora/Redhat is using alpine 2.21

Comment 5 Aurelien Oudelet 2020-08-16 17:43:14 CEST
Mageia 6 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2019-09-30. It is no longer
maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug
fix updates.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan
to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to
a later Mageia version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we
weren't able to fix it before Mageia 6's end of life. If you are able to
reproduce it against a later version of Mageia, you are encouraged to click
on "Version" and change it against that version of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent
Mageia release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them
obsolete.

If you would like to help fixing bugs in the future, don't hesitate to join the
packager team via our mentoring program [1] or join the teams that fit you
most [2].
