Description Pierre Yves MOREAU 2011-06-08 19:59:30 CEST
Description of problem:

Installation : Mageia 64 bits DVD version
Installation up to date, install Canon LBP 660 packet and printer plugged on ltp1 port.

printer installation : CCM > Hardware > Configure printers

Click on add button, "other" and "network printer" (forgot printer name on lpt1 on mageia 32 bits)

Doesn't work on 64 bits.

32 bits version : i need to modify "device url" from parallel:/dev/lp0 to parallel:/dev/null, in this case i can print.

if it's parallel:/dev/lp0 i just can print an half-page.

@ Pierre

Sorry for responding so late. I don't have enough knowledge to know what to do with this bug report and I didn't manage to find someone with a printer on a LPT port, so I'm cc'ing this to someone who knows a lot more about printers.

Is it correct that the parallel port of your printer is attached to the parallel port of the computer you tried to install this printer on?

Or do you use a parallel-to USB adapter cable?

@ Florian

Could you please look into this? I'm ignorant.

@ Pierre

On IRC, Bertl made me aware that I should have asked you for mor information:

What is your printer brand?
what actual connection(s) are there?
did the printer work before in the same setup (for instance with Mandriva, if so with which version of Mandriva)
Is it correct you are using cauldron and not Mageia 1?

(Both Bertl and JohnR have a parallel printer for tests, if needed)

And please attach your /etc/cups/printers.conf and /var/log/cups/error.log.

Also it would be nice to see /etc/cups/printers.conf after automatic installation when the printer is not working. Additionally, what "Canon LBP 660 packet" do you refer to in your report that you installed?

Ping?

Also this should be fixed now that the usblp kernel module was enabled with the last kernel update. And please provide the informations asked in https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1694#c3
